I am a single, recent college graduate. I'm trying to find my place in the adult world, living in a big city. I love to run, be with friends, spend time with my family, and read.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. I have worked to build a relationship with God, and have come to know that the truth of His gospel has been restored, and His church is being led by prophets and apostles today. Mostly, I have found that when I am really striving to live the teachings of the church I am happier, and more at peace than I could ever be without it. The members of the church are some of the most wonderful, sincere people on earth.

Personal Stories

How has the Book of Mormon helped you understand the purpose of life?

At times when I am feeling lowest or saddest, I can turn to the Book of Mormon and find that gentle reassurance that God is aware of me and my struggle. The Book of Mormon has helped me realize why I am here, and where I am going.

How I live my faith

I strive to participate and get involved in the church in whatever way possible. I have been given opportunities to be a teacher, both in the church, and as a missionary. I try to contribute my time and talents in whatever way I can to help serve others. On a daily basis I just try my best to remember what it is that I believe, and what I stand for. Its not always, easy, but I know that in doing my best God has blessed me abundantly.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Absolutely not! While we definitely serve the members of our own church, we believe that ALL men and women on this earth are sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father. Therefore, we are all one in purpose. Mormons serve people throughout the world on a local/personal level as well as on a global level. Members of our church are able to donate money, which is distributed throughout the world to people and nations in need, especially in times of trouble and disaster. It is also common for members of the church to organize activities where materials for humanitarian aid are gathered and distributed. Show more Show less

Absolutely not! I grew up in the church and I'd say the number of people that I've helped in the church is significantly smaller than the number of people I've assisted out side the church. This is not to say I don't help my fellow church members. We believe that we are all children of our Heavenly Father. And by that reasoning we are all brothers and sisters. I take that to heart and when I see someone in need I try to help to the best of my ability and training. Organized service projects aside, I've helped several stranded motorists on the side of the road. I give food to people I've seen that appear to be hungry on the side of the road. And for a long time, when I was growing up, my dad and I would do Meals on Wheels for those in need. I've volunteered at soup kitchens more recently. And during times of widely known hurricanes, I've volunteered on clean up crews multiple times. There is a song we have in our church called "Because I Have Been Given Much." I don't want to post the entire lyrics here, but they are available on a popular search engine. That song is very poignant to me and has always been near and dear to my heart. Also being a former Boy Scout, I have tried to uphold both the Scout Law and Oath to this day. Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Absolutely. And it makes sense that God would want to continue to speak to His children. Some people in other religions have been taught God has spoken and there is no further need. We believe in a living God, one that continues to love His children today like he did in ancient times, and one who desires to provide us encouragement and guidance for our unique trials and challenges. Some may confuse this continuity of communication to indicate God is changing, but that is not true. The universal principles that govern all existence do not change, the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ are stable. I like to think of it like a righteous loving father willing to teach his child as the child learns and goes through life. More specifically, we believe God speaks to us in two ways: 1) through our general and local priesthood leaders which begins with our living Prophet President Thomas S. Monson, God's specially chosen mouthpiece (see Amos 3:7); and 2) to each of us individually through personal revelation through the power of the Holy Ghost. This all works is harmony. For example, through this power of the Holy Ghost we can know the truthfulness of all things, including whether our Prophet is truly God's mouthpiece. Show more Show less
