Chat With a Mormon Online
I recently graduated as an English major and editing minor. I love words, language, books, writing, journaling. I want to be a writer of middle-grade fiction. I have loved horses all my life and had a miniature horse all through high school. I also enjoy the great outdoors--camping, fishing, hiking, running. I especially love spending time in the mountains. My family is my greatest joy.
I come from a family of eleven children. Throughout my life, seeing the example of my parents and my siblings has made me want to continue to live the gospel of Jesus Christ found in this church. Of course when I was little I wondered what was so special about this church. Didn’t every church say it was true? It didn’t take long for me to realize that there is something unique about this church. We have the Book of Mormon, a living prophet, and countless personal witnesses or experiences that have shown to me that this is Christ's church. Whenever I pray I am able to feel the peace and strength that comes as I communicate with my Heavenly Father. Such love and peace is undeniable for me, and so I know He is there. As I continue to pray I am able to receive answers from God about decisions in my life. I have also prayed to know that the Book of Mormon is true, and I know that it is because I have also found answers to life's questions in it. The most important reason I want to be a member of this church is the change that it has made in my life. I thought I was doing okay until life started getting harder. I had to give my dog away, and that seemed like the end of the world for me. I didn’t even try to be happy after that. When I finally saw the state I was in, I realized that the only thing that could help me was Jesus Christ. I decided to turn to Him for help in changing a few things in my life and way of thinking. I was able to find change that I never before thought was possible, and turning to Him has led me on a path in which I continue find lasting change, hope, and peace, always when I turn to Jesus Christ. I’ve still had to face challenges in my life, as we all do, but knowing that God has a plan for us gives me the perspective and assurance that I need every day. What else makes me want to be a Mormon? The standards and values in this church help me to stay strong in a world where standards seem to change. I know what is right and I find joy in doing it.
When I decided to turn to my Savior I was able to through the Book of Mormon. I had read it several times before and knew almost all the details of the storyline. But I had never really applied it to myself. On top of that, I had never really dug deep into it. To be honest, I was a bit afraid that I would find something inconsistent that would prove it wrong. But one day, I decided to open it up and see what it had to say for ME. I started to find treasure after treasure that would help me through each day. Sometimes answers took a long time to come, but they almost always came through the Book of Mormon. Usually the answer to my prayer is the thought: Read the Book of Mormon. I find the answer there, but it takes the faith to open it up and trust that it has the answer. In this way, the Book of Mormon is how I draw closer to God and know His will for me. Through further study I have come to find that the Book of Mormon goes right along with the Bible. Both contain the fulness of the gospel. I have prayed to know if the Book of Mormon is true and received the strongest feeling I have ever felt towards anything that it is.
As I was gaining my testimony of the Savior, I would often reflect on His declaration, "I am the way." It took some time to fully realize what that phrase meant. But I came to know that truly He was the way, the only way, to peace and joy and fulfillment. His gospel is the way of life I need to follow. As I relied on His grace to help me with my weaknesses and fears, my gratitude for the Savior grew and I too was led to declare, "He is the way."
I live my faith by praying every day, studying the scriptures and applying the principles they teach into my own life, and striving to be a good sister, aunt, and friend. I attend church each Sunday and participate there.
