Hi, I'm Katie
I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am a mom of three beautiful children. I love to spend time with my children and try to do something fun with them every day.
I am the eternal companion to a wonderful man. I am his best friend and he is mine. I love him with all my heart!
I am a homemaker and love to organize things. I love to cook and host dinner parties for family and friends. I am adventurous and I love to try new recipes. I am love to decorate the table with centerpieces and place cards.
I have a bachelors degree in speech communications and I am working on getting my educator license to become an elementary school teacher.
I am a Graphic Designer, creating wedding albums. I am a business owner. Together with my husband, a very talented photographer, we run our home-based photography studio.
And I LOVE the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Why I am a Mormon
Although I was born and raised a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I had to find out for myself if the gospel is true.
While away in college I became inactive. It wasn't till I dated a non-member who began to question my religious beliefs that I realized how strong of a testimony I had. When we decided to get married again the subject of church was brought up. He wanted to get married in a Unitarian Church because he thought it would cover my beliefs as well. I was insistent I would not get married in another church. We ended up agreeing on a Justice of the Peace.
When I had my first ultra-sound with our first baby the doctor told us our baby might have downs syndrome and further testing was needed. My first instinct was to go back to church and ask for a priesthood blessing. That following Sunday I went to church and the Bishop gave me a blessing. When further tests were done our baby was found to be completely fine. I haven't missed a Sunday since!
It is only through work on our behalf by reading and studying the scriptures by daily prayer, and by faith that we can know for ourselves that this is the one and only true church on the face of the earth. This knowledge must be sincerely desired. Our Father in Heaven knows the intentions of our heart and will tell us through the Holy Ghost the things we need to hear. I bear testimony of this.
Six years after we met, my husband was baptized a member of the church. He too knows now why I felt the way I did and is eternally grateful.
Personal Stories
How can your talents and gifts bless others?
I have been blessed with the talent of creativity. I use this to plan activities and lessons for the children in our ward. In doing so I am serving others the best way I know how.
In what ways have your prayers been answered?
My prayers a generally answered through the gentle whisperings of the Holy Ghost. I am directed to do something, call someone, or study something in particular.
Sometimes my prayers are answered by the acts and service of others. It may come in the way of a kind e-mail or phone call at just the right moment.
Why do Mormons do family history or genealogy work?
Family history or genalogy is way for us to connect oursevleves to our ancestors.
Since I believe we all will see each other after this life and can be connected to them for eternity through the temple, it is important for me to know who my ancestors are.
What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?
One way I help to strengthen my home and family is to plan family activities. I try to plan one fun thing for my children each day. Weekly we hold a family night were we discuss the gospel and have fun together.
Another way I help strengthen my home and family is by encouraging my children to make correct choices. This will help them be more independent in the future.
Could you talk about your baptism?
I was baptized when I was nine. I remember how great I felt coming out of the water. I also remember a wonderful talk on the Holy Ghost.
Although I was so young I clearly remember how happy my parents were with me and how even more happy my Father in Heaven was.
Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?
I share the gospel with my friends because I want them to know the happiness I have experienced. I equate it to a good movie. Once you have seen a great movie, you want to talk about it with everyone. You want them to share that experience with you.
I share the gospel freely by answering their questions, by sharing talks by the General Authorities, and by including member and non-members in family activities.
How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?
I love that our Father in Heaven loved us so much that he let us choose whether or not to follow Jesus Christ. To know that our Heavenly Father loves us individually is so important to me.
Also knowing that we can return to live with our Father in Heaven and our families after this life, is comforting. I am so happy that death is not the end.
How I live my faith
In my local ward I am a Ward Missionary! One main thing I try to teach people is how to recognize when they are feeling the Holy Ghost.
I also love to serve others. When ever there is a need in our ward I take advantage of the opportunity to help. Thinking of others first helps me stay focused on the things that really matter.
