Hi, I'm Seth
I'm a college athlete, and I live for sports! I love music and the outdoors. I love life! I am a Mormon.
About Me
I am the sixth of ten children six boys and four girls, and I absolutely LOVE my family! I have three nephews and ten nieces so far. I love them all to pieces! I recently returned home from serving a two-year full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Portland, Oregon. Currently I am attending college, majoring in history teaching, and I am having a blast competing on the Track and Field team throwing the discus. I love to sing and have always dreamed of singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir! I enjoy playing the piano, playing competitive sports, and being in the outdoors, too. I really enjoy watching and quoting movies, listening to music, and eating ice cream. I'm currently single but plan to be the world's number one husband and father someday!
Why I am a Mormon
I was born to Mormon parents and have attended the LDS Church my entire life. I was baptized when I was eight years old and have been instructed all my life in Mormon beliefs. However, I have never doubted that what my parents taught me is true. Indeed, I have knelt on my own two knees and have personally asked my Heavenly Father in prayer if the Book of Mormon is true, if Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God, if the Church of Jesus Christ has truly been restored to the earth, and many other things. I know these things because the Holy Spirit has testified to me in my mind and in my heart that they are true. As I have followed the teachings of Jesus Christ and the principles of His restored gospel, I have experienced great peace and happiness. Nothing is more important to me, nor has anything brought me greater joy than my testimony of the reality of Jesus Christ as my Savior and of the truthfulness of His restored gospel. I am absolutely certain that all who come unto Christ and follow Him will enjoy these same blessings now and in the world to come.
Personal Stories
How has The Book of Mormon helped you understand the purpose of life?
Being a college student can be very hard sometimes. Balancing school, work, relationships, Church, and recreation can be a difficult challenge. During one particularly difficult week I was reading in the Book of Mormon and came upon a scripture that profoundly impacted my life and my attitude. I read, "Cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves - to choose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life." I realized that one of the most precious gifts that Heavenly Father has given us is the freedom to make our own choices. We are here to act, not to be acted upon by our circumstances. We don't have to let our circumstance dictate whether or not we are happy. If we want to be happy then all we have to do is choose to do the things that will bring us happiness. I chose to be happy, and guess what? I'm happy!
How I live my faith
I will be the first to say that I am far from being perfect. However, I do my best to live the teachings of Jesus Christ and to follow His example in all that I do. I pray numerous times each day to strengthen my relationship with my Heavenly Father. I thank Him for all that He has given and done for me, and I ask for His help in accomplishing important tasks. I try to set aside time every day to read the scriptures and to think about His teachings. Each day is filled with opportunities to serve and uplift others, so I try to recognize and take advantage of those opportunities to be like Jesus Christ. On Sundays I attend a singles congregation, and we are organized into groups that we call our "family". I have accepted the responsibility to be the leader of our group. We meet each Monday night for a spiritual lesson, an activity, and some tasty treats. It's an opportunity for us to get to know each other and to provide fellowship and support. My roommate and I also have the opportunity to visit each month with several other members of our congregation. We share an uplifting message, find out how they're doing, and provide any service for them that they need. One thing that is difficult for me about being a single college student is that it's very easy to be selfish and to think only about myself and what I need. I'm very grateful for the opportunities that I have through church to think about and serve others. It makes me feel so much happier, and I'm able to become a better person.
