Hi, I'm Amanda
I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am a graduate student studying the brain. When I'm not studying or in lab, I love to play viola, go running and walking, volunteer at a horse farm, cook, and I love church.
Why I am a Mormon
After my parents married, they prayed to find a church in which to raise their children. The next day the missionaries knocked on their door. They were baptized. Six years later my family was sealed together as an eternal family in the temple. A few years after that, my mother became sick. We stopped going to church as a family, but she did something amazing in the 8 years she spent whole and well in the church. She taught the gospel to her children.
As a 4 year old with a testimony of Heavenly Father, I continued to pray. I loved visiting with my parents’ home and visiting teachers, and the occasional missionaries. I took the missionary discussions twice, and when I was 13 I finally got baptized. It was a wonderful decision, because I then got to have the wonderful Holy Ghost with me at all times.
The gospel of Christ has brought me peace and joy. I can honestly say that without it I would be in a completely different place spiritually, emotionally, financially, intellectually, and physically. It provides practical and spiritual blessings now, and promises more in the future. It has helped me through challenges in life and face each day with hope.
Personal Stories
Why do Mormons do family history or genealogy work?
We believe that families can be together forever, sealed together by the priesthood of God. In fact we believe this must happen in fulfillment of an Old Testament prophecy (Malachi 4:5-6). And we believe that those who didn't have the opportunity to receive the gospel in this world are taught it after death, generations and generations before us, where they can accept or reject it. We research our ancestors and seal them to us in holy temples dedicated to God. The family is eternal.
How I live my faith
Christ teaches that we should be a light on a candlestick, that we should be in the world, but not of the world. As a disciple of Christ, I learn of Him by reading the scriptures, attending church services, and learning by faith practicing what I believe.
As I’m still in school a lot of my time is spent with school and volunteer activities in the community. I bike and run. I help friends in need, whether it is a ride to the airport or help with their children. I try to be friendly and do everything with a smile on my face.
