Hi, I'm Patrick C.
I am a rock climber and a historian, I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I love the outdoors. Mountain biking and rock climbing are a few of my passions. Recently I graduated with a BS in History but plan on a career in recreation management. I love music and like to play the guitar or write songs in my spare time. To me life is a great adventure and I like to look for the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Why I am a Mormon
When I was in high school I was searching for answers. I had been a Christian my whole life but for some reason I felt something was missing. A big turning point happened one morning as I was getting ready for school. I looked at myself in the mirror and my eyes looked lifeless. I couldn't see Christ in the person I saw in the mirror. I decided that day to look for something that would make me feel alive inside. I remembered a book that one of my friends had given me a few years earlier. That book was The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. I began to read the book and as I read my life began to change. Over the course of the next few years as I studied and met with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints my life changed. I found the light that was missing from my life. My senior year of high school I was baptized into the Church and my life has never been the same since. I have never found anything that has brought me as much joy or peace as the truths I am learning through the gospel as taught by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Personal Stories
Could you talk about your baptism?
The day I was baptized was a high point in my life. For me it was a sacred day. My friends and family were there to celebrate with me and help me take that important step. My friend, Johnny, who had first given me a copy of The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ was the one I chose to baptize me. As we went down into the font together my soul was filled with inexpressible joy. Johnny said the prayer and then baptized me. When I came out of the water my soul was filled with the most profound peace I have ever experienced and I knew that my sins to that point had been forgiven. The Spirit touched my heart and I knew that Jesus Christ had accepted me into his fold. Since my baptism I have tried to live so that I can feel that same peace and forgiveness in my life each day. I am far from perfect and so I fail a lot but on the day I was baptized I knew that the atonement worked and that as I continue to have faith in Christ and repent of my sins I can have that same peace I felt at baptism in my life always.
How I live my faith
Life in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is both demanding and rewarding. The Church expects a lot from it's members. As a member of The Church I am expected to accept callings to serve in The Church. I personally have served in many positions since I joined The Church. I have been a sunday school teacher, full-time missionary, membership clerk, secretary to local church leaders, plus many other callings. When a member of The Church takes on a position of responsibility they do it as an act of service to their Savior, Jesus Christ, and His Church. Members do not get paid for any of their service in The Church no matter what position they hold. I have never received any monetary compensation for my time spent on church projects and I will never be paid with money. I do however know that God blesses me greatly for my service and pays me in ways I cannot measure with money. My life is so much better because I have the opportunity to serve in The Church.
