Hi, I'm Katie
I'm a Texan. I'm a teacher. I'm crafty and I love to blog. I'm a wife and a mom. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I'm a mom. Not your typical mom though. I'm a mom to an an angel. My baby boy was stillborn earlier this year. While I miss him so much, I find joy in the knowledge that we will be together again one day. I have an incredible husband that supports me in all I do. I graduated from BYU a few years ago and since then have taught elementary school. Most recently I taught 1st grade and I loved every minute of it. I love to do crafts and scrapbooking. I enjoy playing the piano and I absolutely love to play games.
Why I am a Mormon
I've been a member of the church my entire life. I've always considered myself lucky to have grown up in a home where the gospel was present. I have always had a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and I have always tried to do things that are right so I would be worthy to receive the blessing of Eternal Life. Up until a few months ago, my life was pretty easy. I never really had to question my beliefs, I never had to try too hard to have faith. My life was pretty great and pretty perfect. Then, May came around. I was 7 and 1/2 months pregnant and couldn't be more excited to welcome our baby boy into our family. All of a sudden my world came crashing down when I was given the news that my baby's heart had stopped beating and I would deliver him stillborn. I was devastated to say the least. The only thing that kept me going through the next few days, weeks and months, was the gospel of Jesus Christ and my knowledge of the Plan of Salvation. How grateful I was to know without any doubt that I would be able to raise my baby again one day. It didn't take the pain away but I was able to see the big picture. It is still hard now and I miss him so much, but I know how much greater my joy will be in the next life when I can raise him as my own. I have had to have a lot of faith and rely on the knowledge that my Father in Heaven is aware of me on a personal level. He has a plan for me and for my son. He has a plan for each one of us. I can't comprehend the love He has for each of us by sending His Only Begotten Son to die for us. How hard that must have been to watch His Son suffer, bleed and die for us. But, He did it and I'm sure He would do it again because He loves us so much. He wants each one of us to make it back to live with Him again. I'm so grateful for the amazing gift of the Atonement. I know that Christ knows the pain I've felt from loosing my son. I know that because He suffered for me, I can go to Him and rest my burdens at His feet. For all of those reasons, and many more, is why I am a Mormon.
Personal Stories
What has helped develop greater harmony in your home?
Ever since I got married, my husband and I have tried to make prayer and scripture study a regular part of our daily lives. We read and pray together and individually. This helps keep a spirit of peace in our home. Reading the scriptures and praying helps us remember what is most important to us and what our ultimate goal is. Through scripture study and prayer we are able to communicate with our Heavenly Father and have him communicate with us. We are able to learn more about the gospel and develop a greater understanding of the Plan of Happiness.
How I live my faith
I try to live my faith as devoted as I can. I am very active in my ward and try to serve those around me. On Sunday's I teach the children in my ward music. We focus on songs about the Savior and our Father in Heaven.
