Maurine.: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Maurine.

I grew up in Japan. I'm medical student, and a stepmother of 4. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Maurine, and I'm a 3rd year medical student. I grew up in rural Japan, where my dad taught at a university. I'm an army wife, so I hope that lets me travel more and practice medicine around the world. I love to be active - ballroom dance and ballet, hiking and climbing and mountain biking, and chasing around my 4 wonderful stepkids.

Why I am a Mormon

Like many, I grew up Mormon. My parents chose to raise me Mormon, but I choose to be Mormon every day of my life. And it's so worth it! It's so wonderful to know of God's love for me and to have access to ongoing revelation and guidance from Him! Life is busy and crazy, and who knows where I'd be if it weren't for the direction and blessing of the Lord and His church in my life.

Personal Stories

What has helped develop greater harmony in your home?

My husband and I are creating a "blended family". That is to say, he has children from a previous marriage, and in a few years, we hope to have kids of our own. It's not a simple situation, and family harmony can get strained pretty easily when families fall apart and try to recombine.
Tension remains, but we know that Heavenly Father wants us to focus on creating the type of family He would want His children to grow up in. So we focus on the little things. We study scriptures and other uplifting books together. We make sure to pray for each other, for the children, and for improved peace and communication in the family. We make sure to overuse the words "I love you", and try to show patience and Christ-like love in our actions. And we aim to set an example by not speaking ill of others, especially in front of the children.
The transition hasn't been easy, but it has been blessed in ways that our actions alone can't explain. Heavenly Father has worked in all of us to magnify our love. He blesses me with patience and energy when I'm with the kids that I can't seem to find when I'm on my own. I've seen His Spirit help my young stepdaughter understand and accept concepts beyond her years. And God has comforted me and my husband through many painful and lonely times. I know He is there, He loves us, and He will answer all our prayers for increased harmony in our home.

How I live my faith

Every day, I let my understanding that every person living on this earth is a son or daughter of our Heavenly Father guide my developing career in medicine. If nothing else, I tell myself, I can help each person find the dignity they deserve as a child of God. I can help them through their trials in this life, and guide them through some of the choices that Heavenly Father would have them make to maintain the gift that is a physical body.
