Hi, I'm Kortni
I grew up in Las Vegas. I'm a middle school geography teacher. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I'm a recently married I teach 8th grade geography teacher. It's only my first year working at my dream job and I've discovered that it's very hard. I admit that my first year of marriage is easier and more enjoyable than my first year teaching. When I'm not working I spend most of my time hanging out with my husband or with our families, eating, watching movies, going on bike rides or walks, and serving as a leader in the church's youth organization. I love to travel whenever and wherever I can.
Why I am a Mormon
I've been a Mormon since I was 8 but I've been going to church ever since I can remember. When I was 8 I knew I was supposed to get baptized. I really felt like it was the right thing to do and I knew I made some serious promises but I still had a pretty simple understanding. In 10th grade I studied the New Testament in an early morning scripture study class. That really helped me fell closer to Jesus Christ and have more meaningful prayers. I started seriously praying to know if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the real church of Jesus Christ and the one I needed to be a part of. As I prayed and read my scriptures I learned to recognize the Holy Ghost. I just felt good the church. I felt good when I read the Book of Mormon and listened to the living prophet. I also felt good and happy and peaceful when I went to church and tried to live all the commandments that I was taught there and at home and in the scriptures. I never had any one huge experience but I continue to have these feelings of peace as I pray, read the Book of Mormon and Bible, and hear about how the church was restored through Joseph Smith. I know that really happened. I know the prophet of the Mormon church is the prophet of God on earth just like Moses. Being a Mormon and trying to live what I belief gives me purpose and joy and a lot of protection from bad choices.
How I live my faith
I teach the young women in my congregation. I've only been doing this for a couple of months. I help plan activities for them each week and keep up on how they're doing. I also just try to be kind and forgiving each day. I've realized as I teach 8th grade that I'm not as patient and kind as I thought I was. This is something that I get help with through prayer.
