Julie: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Julie

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the wife of a very busy surgery resident and the mother of two crazy, funny boys. I'm a college graduate and die-hard Sun Devil. I enjoy being outdoors, especially camping and hiking. I love college football season. I could spend all my time reading history books or doing puzzles. I've been able to live in two amazing foreign countries: in Mongolia as a missionary and in the Caribbean island of Dominica during some of my husband's medical training.

Why I am a Mormon

Although both of my parents are members of the church and I grew up going to church, I had to learn for myself that the gospel is true. The way I have learned that it is true is by trying out the teachings and commandments. For example, when I wanted to learn if the Book of Mormon was true, I read it and prayed about it. When I wanted to know if keeping the Word of Wisdom, the Lord's law of health including no alcohol, tobacco, or drugs, would bring blessings, I followed it. Every time I have tried to follow a commandment or promise, I have been blessed and learned that what I believe is true. The biggest confirmation for me is that I am truly happy. Life is still difficult and full of challenges and trials, but when I live according to the gospel, I am happy, especially because I know that God is my Heavenly Father and wants me to be happy and Jesus Christ suffered for my sins and pain so I can repent.

Personal Stories

How can your talents and gifts bless others?

Heavenly Father has given each of us talents to not only benefit our lives, but others' lives as well. I learned an important lesson about this when I went on a mission to Mongolia. Since I was five years old, I took piano lessons, all the way until I was 21 and leaving on a mission. I love playing the piano, especially classical music like Chopin. I knew when I went on a mission that I would not be able to practice every day and my abilities to play difficult pieces would diminish. It was hard for me to give that up. When I first arrived in Mongolia, our church group had no one to play the piano for our meetings. I was able to play the hymns so the members of the church could sing. I remember that after a while I realized that for almost my entire life, my talent as a pianist blessed mainly myself. Now Heavenly Father was wanting me to use that talent to bless the Mongolian members with the opportunity to sing the hymns in church. That experience has taught me that it is important to use our talents and gifts to help others find joy in their lives. By doing this, our own joy increases as well.

How I live my faith

I try to keep a personal relationship with my Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ through prayer and repentance. I work hard at keeping loving relationships with my husband, parents, siblings, in-laws and sons. I try to teach my boys to be good people, neighbors and friends, and to have faith. I try to make my neighborhood and community a better place by being an example, standing up for my beliefs, and finding common ground with those of other faiths. At church I get to share my testimony with children as I teach them songs about the Savior and His gospel.
