Hi, I'm Nic Mac
I grew up in Cerritos, CA. I was an athlete in football, track and Martial Arts. I'm in the military. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I was always the fastest kid growing up. I established a bunch of CA state records in track and football growing up. I was a dj and was recruited to play football for BYU in the mid 90's. I am currently working on my Masters while working Full Time as an IT Tech for the Federal Government and am also a reservist in the Minnesota National Guard. I spend most of my free time developing my daughter's athletic skills in basketball, boxing and volleyball. My wife and I volunteer often in our community and I am a proud parent of a missionary. My oldest son is currently serving in the Fresno, CA Mission Spanish speaking.
Why I am a Mormon
In the mid 90's I signed on to play football at BYU. I never once took seriously anything any Mormon in Utah would tell me about the church. I left the school never knowing much about the religion. Sometime later, I met a girl who became my best friend while I was stationed in the FT Army in Alaska. Through the course of our friendship in the Last Frontier, we found out we had quite a few things in common. The first being, we were both Los Angeles natives. I also told her I played football for BYU and she told me she was an inactive Mormon. After a few years, we got married and we both decided that it was time for our blended family to become a "real family". I was baptized Aug 2006, we were sealed as a family Oct 2007 and we now have a son serving a mission in Fresno, CA and a nephew we helped raised serving at the same time in Atlanta, GA.
Personal Stories
How can we develop greater harmony in our homes?
I really believe that the Bible in combination with The Book of Mormon, Doctrines & Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price has changed my outlook on life. I am honored to know that even without the support of my family, I am a Child of God. I can testify without a doubt that Our Heavenly Father sends you ALL you need and answers each individual prayer the way it has to be answered in order for us to practice faith, humility and true courage. I know that I have NEVER knelt to pray with others until I got a family of my own and I was humbled that I was finally taught the way families can become closer through prayer. I believe attending church and sitting with your family is one of the greatest joys a man will ever know in his life if he brings himself to really get to know Christ. Last, I believe the greatest joy our son has given us to date, is the honor to attend the temple with him and to give us the assurance that he is the great kid we always knew he was. There is so much clossness my family is rewarded with because the Gospel has set forth plans to give us those opportunities to bond.
Can you think of a specific challenge in your family that Gospel Principles helped overcome?
My wife and I were heavy drinkers and smokers. Basically we were the "Club" people. Weekend after weekend throwing hundreds of dollars down the drain and for a temporary reward. Meanwhile, our kids are watching a poor example and are not understanding what path they should follow. The minute we set a goal for me to get baptized and for all of us to be sealed a year after my conversion, we stopped drinking and smoking instantly and have never relapsed. People were amazed. We were not because we knew the Spirit and the need for our family to know true love with one another was stronger then any addiction we had ever had. YES people! The Spirit will help your will become what it was to weak to be on its own. It is that POWERFUL! The Gospel sets the principles, you just have to ask for the Spirit to guide you back.
How I live my faith
We study our scriptures more so now that we have our son and nephew out in the field. My wife and I have basically shunned by our own parents and really have very little extended family to rely on for emotional support, so it has become almost a blessing in a way to form a close bond with each other and completely rely on the Spirit to guide our home. We pray together nightly as a family and we COMMUNICATE. Something I didn't have in my own home growing up.
