My name is Ben and I just graduated high school in June 2010. I was captain of the Varsity Soccer Team, was a straight-A student, and have dreams of going to college. But for now, I'm a full-time employee working 45-70hours per week, saving up for my mission. When I'm not working, I love to ride my bike, play soccer, work out, or pretty much anything that involves exercise! Another one of my favorite things to do is volunteer work around town. I love to give back to the community! It has been about one year and one month since I converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized. My life has improved drastically since!
I'm a convert to the church. The gospel helps me through all the trials in life.
I recently graduated high school and had planned on attending college for one year and then going on a mission for my church. Eventually, I found out that I could not afford to pay for college because the loans I was going to take out would require me to begin paying them back while I was on my mission. My dad offered to pay the loans for me, but I didn't want to drop it on him because he wouldn't be able to afford it. Plus, I didn't want to be in debt to him. So I spent many nights praying about what I was going to do. I got an answer, but it didn't seem very strong. I then received a blessing, which answered my prayers clearly. I was to get a job and work until I had enough money to go on my mission. College could wait until I got back. I listened to this answer and began applying for jobs. The boss for my summer job ended up offering me a full-time position after summer ended, and I picked up a job at the mall, as well as getting back into an old job that I've had but wasn't doing anything with or making any money off of. I now have 3 jobs, will be working 45-70hours per week, and can begin saving up for my mission. My prayers were answered, I chose to listen, and now He has blessed me with a path to take.
I share the gospel with friends that are interested and willing to listen to what we believe. I don't want to push my religion on anyone, so if it's brought up casually in a conversation and they have questions, I answer them. If they're willing to learn more, I'll invite them to Institute scripture study, YSA FHE, or church on Sunday. The reason I share the gospel with my friends is because I want them to have the same life-changing experience I had. My life has improved so much since accepting the gospel into my life. I was put here on Earth today for a reason, and I believe that reason is to teach people, bringing them closer to our Father in Heaven. They deserve to learn of His gospel the restored church of Jesus Christ.
A few weeks back, I was working at a job a good distance from home, but was unsure if I it was worth keeping or not because I was on-call and some days I wasn't working there for too long before they would send me home for the day. I ended up praying for a sign as to whether or not I should keep the job. The following Monday, I'm out on my paper route at 2am at the top of a hill, backing into a driveway. I crank the wheel all the way to the left, take my foot off the brake and all of a sudden hear a SNAP!! I get out of my car to see the passenger-side wheel pushed forward into the front of the car. Turned out the boot on the wheel was torn and then there was another problem with the bearings. I guess my car breaking down that morning before work was my sign that I shouldn't keep that job. We all just have to remember that God has a sense of humor. But He also knows what's best for us, even if we don't understand it right away...
Reading my scriptures, attending church, going to school, and praying.
