Xing: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Xing

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in China. I am passionate about helping people to find their voices and live an engaging life.

About Me

I am a father of four, a husband, and an international businessman. I came from China to the United States in the mid 90's for graduate study and have lived and worked in the US since then. I enjoy reading on a variety of topics, biking and doing yoga, and learning violin with my six year old daughter.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because in the church I find truth and people living those truths. I find purpose in life because of my faith. Coming from an atheist background, I spent some time before fully embracing a relationship with my Heavenly Father. However, despite my moments of weakness, God has reached out to me and demonstrated His love for me in such meaningful ways that I cannot deny His presence. All that I am today is because of Him. That is why I chose to follow Him.

Personal Stories

How can we develop greater harmony in our homes?

Our Church's Proclamation to the world on Family states clearly that "Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." Another way to look at is that Heavenly Father is the real head of our family and my wife and I work together as a team under His guidance to lead the family. Gospel essentials such as daily prayer, family time, scripture study are crutial to having a spirit of harmony in the home. We also come up with ways that remind us of our divine identity - having pictures of Jesus on the walls, church magazines and books by the couch, playing church music, etc. Keeping the Sabbath by going to church and worshiping God is also a key practice. The list can go on but basically both my wife and I need to be humble and thus willing to be led by Heavenly Father who communicate with us through the quiet whispering of the Spirit in our hearts.

How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?

I grew up in China at a time when the one-child policy was starting to be enforced for fear of a shortage of national resources. Over the past few decades the Chinese people by and large have not only accepted this policy but also embraced it culturally, particularly in the cities. As a result, a shock usually comes upon people's faces in China when they learn how many children I have.

Despite having been a church member for years, when I started to have more than two children, I struggled to reconcile this with my past cultural background. Over time I came to realize what abundant life awaits me in the future with the blessing of these heavenly sent children. Each child helps me to recognize the divine nature that's tucked inside their little bodies and the magnificent love our Heavenly Father has for each one of them. I am wiser today because of their examples of faith, purity, love, optimism, and integrity.

The Plan of Happiness of our Heavenly Father helps me to understand that this earthly existence, while important, is merely "a twinkle in the eye of eternity," as one wise Elder in our church has said. When family discipline is needed for my children, having this eternal perspective helps me to look beyond the trouble they may have caused and see young apprentices destined for greatness. Having this vision helps me to build a rich relationship with my children.

How I live my faith

I try to spend quality time every day in prayer and scripture study. I do so at the beginning and the end of the day to set my mind on what truly matters. In my daily conduct I try to emulate Jesus Christ. I fall short from time to time, and I repent and ask for His help.
Our church is run by volunteers and as such I am one of the volunteers. I have worked with young children, youth and adults in our church. I have a family that I watch out for to make sure that their physical and spiritual needs are taken care of. I also travel to other congregations in the area to help strengthen them.
