Jeff: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Jeff

I am a student at the University of Arizona. I am married and loving life. I love serving others. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town working on the family farm and ranch. I love to spend time outdoors and love spending time with my family, especially my new wife. They mean so much to me.
I enjoy riding bikes, reading, making people smile, and photography. My favorite things to take pictures of are the amazing Arizona sunsets in my hometown. I am currently studying in Tucson, Arizona. I love learning, so college is mostly enjoyable for me. I believe in enjoying life as it comes to you, even though life may not always seem enjoyable at first glance.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I want to be. It may be hard for others to understand my decision, but it is not a hard decision for me because of what I know. I have had too many experiences to count that have helped me to know this is the right path.
I am fascinated by religions and belief systems different than my own. I love to study what other people believe and try to understand why. I am delighted every time I find that something I believe to be true is also dear to another religion. However, I invariably also find something that just doesn't logically make sense to me. I have yet to have that problem with this Church. Although certain things may seem confusing at first, it all seems to fall into place if I study and pray about it.

Personal Stories

What has helped develop greater harmony in your home?

Growing up as one of 8 children, there was always a ready supply of contention in our home. In spite of this, my parents always gathered us together at least twice each day for prayer. We would pray in the morning and again before dinner. Also, we all got up at 5:30 to read scriptures over breakfast before my dad left for work. I feel that this has contributed more to my family's harmony than any other thing. Regardless of our differences, we were always united when it came to family prayer and scripture study.
I see the same pattern in my own family now. My wife and I take time out of our extremely busy schedules to pray together every morning before I leave for work and right before we go to bed. We also read from the scriptures each night, even on the days when we are so tired that we nod off between sentences. These are habits that helped my family growing up and I want those same results in my own family.

How I live my faith

I feel that my religion is the most important thing in my life. Rarely does a minute go by when I am not influenced by my faith. I believe in being a Mormon 7 days a week rather than just on Sunday.
There was a time in my life when I was teaching some of my friends about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The more times I told them I knew this church was true, the more I had to ask myself what that meant to me. I couldn't go on telling people I knew it was true if I wasn't trying to follow its teachings. At that point, I promised myself that I would never ask someone to keep a commandment I wasn't fully committed to keeping. That decision changed the way I looked at everything.
The first change I made was to make daily scripture reading a priority. In doing so, I discovered how amazing the scriptures are. The stories are inspiring and the teachings clear. One goal I set was to read through the Book of Mormon again. I found the joy that comes through reading this amazing book. As a good friend and mentor once told me, "the Book of Mormon is either true and the most important book ever written, or it is false and is the best novel ever written."
I reevaluated other aspects of my life and found that with a little effort I could gain much more from my experiences in church services. My prayers became more heartfelt and my relationship with God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ became deeper. My love for my fellow man increased. I felt like shouting to the world of the joy that I had discovered.
I am by no means perfect. But I have found that by trying to live the teachings of my religion I have become much happier than I could become by any other means possible.
