Peter: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Peter

I was born in Mainland China and I grew up in Hong Kong. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I joined the Church in Hong Kong when I was 16 years old. It was surely a turning point to me. I now have a happy family with a wonderful wife and three kids.

I work as a university professor and I enjoy spending time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I attended a Buddhist secondary school in Hong Kong and believed many of its teachings. When I first saw the LDS missionaries, I wonder why they wasted their time telling people about God. I thought I might "enlighten" them with the teachings of Buddha. They answered my many questions patiently.

After many days, I accepted the missionaries' challenge to pray to see if God would answer my prayer. It was really a struggle for me to offer that first prayer. At the end, I prayed sincerely. I not only asked if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was truly a Church of God as the missionaries requested me to ask. More importantly, I asked God if He truly existed and if He was truly my Father in Heaven. He answered my prayer! It was a feeling of joy that was difficult to described. The feeling was so strong that I opened my eyes immediately after I said "amen" because I thought an angel of God was standing in front of me.

There was no angel, but everything seemed to be brighter and I was overjoyed. I have found the ultimate truth. I have found God. I excitedly jumped up and down in our little apartment in that quiet afternoon.

Over the years, however, my greatest testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel of Christ comes from the constant application of it in my own life and see that God will really guide me and my family. He has a plan of happiness for me and you.

Please give Him a chance and He will answer the sincere prayer of your heart.

Personal Stories

What blessings have come through your faith in Jesus Christ?

When I joined the Church, I was about to drop out of school because I had no interest in studying. I thought I might just work in a construction site so I could leave my family. After joining the Church, my life became meaningful. I wanted to be a missionary and I also wanted to pursue a college education. Both seemed impossible because I was the only Mormon in my family and my score at school was very low. I could barely make it to Form 4 10th Grade. I started studying very hard. I was learning many things that others had learned at a lower grade.

To keep a long story short, it took many years for me to realize my youthful goals. At the end, I not only was the first one in both my immediate and extended family to receive a college education, I also served an honorable mission for the Lord Jesus Christ. I later even went onto receive a master's and a doctorate degree in Instructional Psychology and Technology. I have taught at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Brigham Young University Hawaii, and Brigham Young University in Utah. I feel that my work is meaningful and I am respected in my own field. I have a good family that is full of laughter, learning, and love. We treasure each others' relationship and we have many good friends outside and inside of the Church.

All these are possible when have faith in Jesus Christ and live by His teachings. I still make many mistakes in life, but God is forgiving. He will accept us if we repents because He truly love us. He has blessed me tremendously and I know He will bless you too. Coming unto Him is a decision that you will never regret!

How I live my faith

In our Church, we try to care for each other. For example, I am assigned to care for three families. Two of them comprise of elderly couples. There is so much we can learn from wonderful experiences of many decades. The third family is currently facing sickness and some other life challenges. As I learn to assist these families, I learn to live closer to Christ. "What Would Jesus Do" is a question that we like to ask ourselves daily.

My wife also has similar callings among the sisters. She also teaches 13-14 year old youths in Sunday School. She has always been a good teacher and a good example to these teens.
