I am from Utah, studying biochemistry, and I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I served as a missionary for the church for two years in Paraguay. It was an edifying experience. I could see the changes the gospel of Jesus Christ made in people as they obeyed the commandments. I strived to do everything I could to share the gospel with everyone I met. I did and continue to do this because I know this church is true and I know the blessings it brings. My life has been blessed immensely and I want others to be able to enjoy these blessing too. I know who I am, what God wants me to do, and who I can become. This is a hope that makes me firm. It is a hope that everyone can have.

About Me

I was born in Nebraska, and when I was 13 my family and I moved to Utah where I have lived ever since. I am currently at college studying biochemistry. After I graduate I hope to go to graduate school and eventually become a pharmacist. I am a huge Star Wars fan and enjoy watching all the movies. I love practicing guitar (even though I'm not very good yet) and spending time with my wonderful wife and family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because God has witnessed to my heart that it is the true church. I was born in this church; my parents are members. At first I participated in the church only because my parents did. However later in life I decided to pray and ask God if the church I was in was true. When I did, I felt an immense peace in my heart that I knew was the answer that yes it was right. Since then as I continue to participate in the church my testimony grows stronger and stronger. I know this is Christ's only true church on the earth today. It was restored by God through the prophet Joseph Smith. I know we have a living prophet who teaches us God's will for our days. Christ lives and through Him we can live with our Heavenly Father again.

How has The Book of Mormon helped you understand the purpose of life?

The Book of Mormon has taught me why I am here on this earth. It has taught me what I have to do in this life to be able to live with God again. Because of the Book of Mormon I have a clearer understanding of God's plan for me, and this understanding gives me hope. It teaches me what God wants for me and what I can become. This hope helps to anchor my soul and make me firm and steadfast in this world of changing values.

How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?

In the introduction to the Book of Mormon there is a quote by Joseph Smith which reads, "I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.” Every time I study the Book of Mormon the Spirit of the Lord touches my heart and I feel peace and comfort of a loving Heavenly Father. I often feel myself encircled in the arms of God's love and even though many things in my life may be difficult for me, I know that everything will work out all right. I know that this book is true. It testifies of Jesus Christ and of His Atonement for us. I promise that anyone who will sincerely read this book with real intent and faith in Christ will feel that same peace and comfort in their hearts.

How I live my faith

For me the best way to live my faith is striving to be like Christ and follow His perfect example. I try to look for small opportunities everyday where I can lend a helping hand to someone. I try to always carry a smile and brighten someone's day as Christ would. I also served for two years in Paraguay sharing the gospel with the people there and helping them to know for themselves the truthfulness of the church. I am not perfect by any means, but my goal is to follow Christ and do the things that He would do.

What is faith?

From my study of the scriptures, I have come to realize that faith is a firm belief that moves us to action. Everyday we do things because we believe they will help us achieve some end result. Likewise, when we have faith in God we believe in Him firmly enough to follow His commandments, and because of our obedience we can have a firm hope of receiving the promised blessings. Faith is a principle of action and power. By exercising our faith in God through obedience we will see miracles happen in our lives.

Of all the definitions of faith I have read or heard, I add the simplest and most complete to me, which is the Love of Christ. I cannot think of a better way to describe faith. Love of Christ is the substance of hope in something evident we can not see with earthly eyes. It is the faith in Christ or the love of Christ that enabled Able to make a more perfect sacrifice (Hebrews 11:4). That love is why we believe in Christ, it is why we have grace, it is why we have works, it is why we have belief, it is why we have hope, it is why we have charity, it is the very essence of faith, and faith is the very essence of the Love of Christ

Perfect knowledge is worthless without faith. For instance, most of us have perfect knowledge that applying a pointed pencil to paper will cause a mark. That knowledge will not make a mark if we do not exercise the elements of faith called works (picking up the pencil, applying it to the paper, and making a mark), belief (that doing so will make a mark), and hope (that it actually will make a mark). It is my desire that you would exercise works to find out about Christ and study Him, that you would believe on His words and His life and His sacrifice, and that you would hope that He would have an effect in your life. If you exercise this faith, you will truly come unto Him.

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Our fundamental religious service is what we call our Sacrament meeting. Anyone is welcome to join us in Sacrament meeting as well as our other Sunday meetings at any of our buildings. Sacrament is a time when we ponder and reflect on Jesus Christ's atonement for our sins, for He is the path by which we can repent of our wrongdoings and begin anew on a correct path with additional guidance from our Heavenly Father. Furthermore, on Sunday we have general Sunday School meetings where we talk more in-depth about the various doctrine of the gospel as well as meetings where we meet in groups of similarly-aged individuals to learn and discuss gospel topics more focused to each particular age group. We welcome anybody and everybody and would love to see you in our congregation spiritually connecting with your loving Heavenly Father and drawing nearer to him and his son, Jesus Christ.
