About Me

I love a lot of things. I hike, a lot. When winter comes, I ski, a lot. I sew a lot too. I'm an amateur astronomer and absolutely love having star parties. I even teach astronomy and some other sciences too. I live at beautiful Lake Tahoe. So you can understand why I hike, ski, and gaze at the dark, starry skies! I'm a mom and a wife and oh, I forgot to mention that I also am a squaredancer.

Why I am a Mormon

There was a time when I wondered if I could ever be happy. That time seems so far away now. I was in my mid 20's and I really couldn't find joy in life. I didn't see it in the people around me . . . until I started looking at the Mormons. I was surprised and delighted to find a community of folks who were truly happy. Families that were "making it last." I learned for myself that Heavenly Father loves me and wants me to be happy. That I am his daughter. That Jesus Christ is my loving elder brother. I have been blessed to feel that true joy ever since. My life feels like new. All my dreams have come true. This happiness is real. I cannot deny it. It is just one of the many ways that I know that I am doing what is right. That it is right for me to be a Mormon. This is what God wants for me. I know it.

Personal Stories

How does making right choices help us make more right choices?

I have learned that making a right choice does more than just help me feel good about myself. A right choice has "eternal implications." Our Father in Heaven knows our thoughts and our mind. He blesses us when we make right choices. I have experienced this many times. When I make the decision to do what is right, my faith increases. My testimony grows. I grow nearer to my Savior. I am always blessed when I make right choices. OK, it isn't always easy to do the right thing and of course I sometimes mess up, but Heavenly Father never fails me!

How I live my faith

I love to go to church every week. I love the singing and lessons. I also like to have fun with my church friends. They are my best friends. I help plan the parties and who doesn't love a party? Mormons have fun playing softball, having barbeque on the beach, putting on silly talent shows, and hayrides too. Most of all, we love to get together and eat! So I help plan plenty of potluck meals and picnics.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

No, we do not worship Joseph Smith. We are thankful that God has sent prophets to earth to give us God's word and to guide us. Biblical prophets like Moses and Abraham are well known and understood. We believe that God continues to speak to His children through prophets and Joseph Smith is one of these prophets. Indeed, he was very instrumental in building the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Yes, he was a martyr. Nevertheless, he is a man. We worship our Father in Heaven and our Savior, Jesus Christ.

No. We only worship God. Joseph Smith was not a god. He was a prophet. Just like Moses and Abraham and all of the other prophets in the Bible. He is not a god, we do not worship him, however, as a prophet, God used him as a tool to communicate with us by giving Joseph Smith revelation. God spoke to us through Joseph Smith. Therefore, we accept what Joseph Smith said to be the word of God.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

I am sexually attracted to other males. For awhile, I struggled with how a loving Heavenly Father could allow for me to be attracted to other males, and then ask me to abstain from same-sex relationships. However, as I have tried to deal with my attractions in a Christ-like manner, I have found that He really does love me. I have grown so much spiritually as I have learned to deal with my same-sex attractions. I now understand that everyone has challenges in this life. I am no different.

The Church has a high standard on morality. The only sexual relationships that are permitted are between a man and his wife. This may prove difficult for both people with same-sex and opposite-sex attractions. However, I believe that by obeying this law, we can gain greater peace and happiness. God does know what is best for us, and He gave us this law to bless us.

Same-sex marriage distorts what marriage is all about. It is based on the lie that because you are attracted to the same sex, you need to be in a same-sex relationship in order to be "true to yourself". Many members of the Church can testify that this is not true. Some have found peace and joy in celibacy, and others gone on to have faithful and fulfilling marriages. For a long time, I thought I couldn't get married, but the Lord has blessed me to develop a sexual attraction to a beautiful woman and we have a wonderful marriage.
