About Me

I am a father of six, all under the age of 10. I enjoy the outdoors, such as kayaking in the Everglades. I recently paddled the 100 mile Wilderness Waterways Canoe Trail with three of my brothers.

I graduated with a tax LLM from the University of Florida and currently practice law as an attorney at a firm in Miami. I specialize in international tax issues, including voluntary disclosures, foreign trusts, expatriation and foreign financial accounts.

My ancestors were on the Mayflower, with Joseph Smith when the Church was first organized, and walked across the Plains to Utah. The roots of Faith run deep in my blood.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon has helped me gain a greater appreciation for Jesus Christ and of his role as my Savior.

What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?

Each Monday evening we gather together as a family for a family night where we sing songs, teach important principals, play games and have dessert. Our kids love it.

What has helped develop greater harmony in your home?

We have a family moto: Act with love, speak with kindness, do your part and always do your best.

How I live my faith

I enjoy living the gospel with my family, including reading the scriptures, praying and attending church together.

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

No, Mormons do not practice polygamy. Although some members of the church practiced polygamy more than a centry ago, today members of the church have only one wife. The family unit is central to our faith and one of the primary purposes of the gospel is to stregthen the family around the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The short answer: no.

The fun answer: I am always a bit surprised when I get asked whether Mormon's practice polygamy, especially since it is a point of pride among Mormons that we tend to be more "monogomous" than the general population - the divorce rate among Mormons is much lower than it is among non-Mormons, hence marriage to a second, third, or fourth husband or wife is much less likely.

The informative answer: In the first half of the 19th century and beginning with Joseph Smith, the founding Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Lord commanded certain men to take more than one wife for reasons that are known in full only to God himself. These men and women sought in faith to live the commandments of God as they were taught by the Prophets of God. The practice of plural marriage continued in a highly organized and church-sanctioned fashion until the Lord commanded that the practice be discontinued in the year 1890.

I am a descendant of the fourth wife of one such man. I have read his journals and heard accounts of his day to day interactions with his family and friends. He was a good and an honest man, as were most if not all of the men to whom the command was given from the Lord to take more than one wife, both in the early days of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in Biblical times.

Where did Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints begin?

Are you a secular or a spiritual type of person? (1 Corinthians 3:2, Hebrews 5:12.)

Secular answer: The answer you may want to hear is that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began in 1830 on the Peter Whitmer farm in western New York. That’s when the founder, Joseph Smith, made the Church a legal entity in the United States. Many people are satisfied with that answer.

Spiritual answer: This is the same church that has been around since the dawn of time. This is the gospel that Jesus Christ gave to Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, that Christ and his apostles taught while he was here on the earth. Because we are prone to wander, God sends prophets to adjust our perspective and invite us to return, so that we may be truly happy. In order to invite the world back to his path once more, God restored this original gospel to the earth through Joseph Smith. Wherever the gospel goes, the Church is careful to live within the laws of the land. It spans all time and all lands, in any country which allows the Church to be established legally. (Twelfth Article of Faith: We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.)

Everyone on earth may know these truths for themselves, directly from God. It all depends with which answer you’re ready/willing to be satisfied. I have learned for myself that the answers that come from God are desirable above all others. (Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 8:12).
