Hi, I'm Andrew
I help people find light in a darkened world. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I am a Mormon Missionary.
About Me
I am the second of six children. I have a twin sister who is my best friend. I have played soccer all my life. It and the church are two of the few things that have always been around. Sports were a huge focus for me. I played soccer, ran track, played ultimate and football. I made real good grades and went to college for two semesters. But then a year and a half ago, I left everything behind- my family, friends, college, sports- to go and serve a mission for two years in Florida. It has been the most rewarding experience of my entire life. My passions have changed from trying as hard as I can to come out on top and being better than everyone else to doing everything I can to lift others and help them come closer to our Savior. As I have sought to guide others to Christ, I have drawn closer to him than I ever have been.
Why I am a Mormon
I was born into the church. My mother became a member when she was about 21. My father and his mother were baptized when he was young. Both of my parents have always led me in the right path and taken me to church and I have been active in the church all my life. When I was about 16 or 17, I realized that I needed to find out for myself if the church was true. I had read from the Book of Mormon many times and I had prayed about it many times and never received a witness whether it was true or not. But I decided to do it again. I read the whole Book of Mormon without an answer. I prayed and didn't get an answer. I was confused and worried and I didn't really know what I should do. Moroni tells us to pray and "He will reveal the truth of it unto by the power of the Holy Ghost". Christ tells us "ask, and ye shall receive; knock and it shall be opened unto you". Well, I did and I didn't get an answer. I wanted to know so badly. More than I have ever wanted anything else. So I tried again. And I felt a little something. Not an epiphany by any means, but something. So I kept going. And every time I went to church or read the scriptures or did anything, I prayed to be able to feel the Spirit and know what was true. My answer did not come in a single moment. Nor in a week, nor a month. But just as slowly and surely as the wind and the rain have carved out the face of this earth, the Lord shaped my testimony and he showed me the way. I offer my testimony of the truthfulness of this church and the Book of Mormon. I know that they are true. I know that the Book of Mormon has been brought forth in our day by God to show us the truth in a world full of deception and changing moral values. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Jesus' church on the earth and that it alone has the authority to act in his name. And I know this because the Lord has told me so. He has spoken to my heart on more than one occasion. He has told me in ways that I cannot deny, and that I will never deny. The prophet Joseph Smith said that "a man who doesn't have something he is willing to die for isn't a man at all". He proved that he was willing to die for what God had revealed to him. I know what God has revealed to me. And that is why I am giving my life for this message. That is why I have left family and friends, personal affairs and scholastic pursuits. That is why I am a missionary. And that is why I am a Mormon.
Personal Stories
Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you?
In John 16:33, the Savior says: "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." This scripture has always hit me really hard. I have always felt it very strongly when I read it. And I didn't always understand it. Recently, I have come to understand it a little better. When Jesus Christ performed the great sacrifice known as the Atonement, he overcame sin and death. But that wasn't all he overcame. Christ also overcame all of the trials and challenges that we face in this life. Every heartbreak, illness, confusion, mistake, affliction, doubt, fear, and every other difficult thing in this life has been swallowed up in the sacrifice of Christ. We just have to go to him and he will help us. That is something that has been on my mind a lot lately. And it is my favorite teaching of our Savior.
How I live my faith
Since the time of the Bible, God has commanded his people to share the gospel with all the world. In Matthew, Christ tells his disciples that they "are the light of the world". He commands them to let their light shine so that others may "see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven". At the end of Matthew he more specifically commands us to "go and teach all nations". I have been called by a prophet of God to do that. I am serving a mission for two years in Florida. I teach people all day, every day about Jesus Christ and how he has restored the fullness of his gospel to the earth.
