Hi, I'm Laura Jean
I grew up in Penticton, BC, Canada. I graduated from university at the age of 43. I'm a mormon
About Me
I am a wife and mother. After 29 years of marriage, we have lived all over California, Hawaii, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, all over Arizona, and a short two week stint in Hearne, Texas. I love my six grandchildren. I volunteer at a learning club for 4-5 year olds. Being with my husband, no matter where he is traveling, is my favorite thing to do. Right now he lives in Bakersfield, CA. I love old movies but modern day music. I love to sail my Hobie Cat and Invitation sailboats. Remodling is a favorite activity. I will travel any where, any time and in any fashion.
Why I am a Mormon
I am a Mormon because I know that Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in a grove of trees and that they spoke to him. I am a Mormon because I believe the Book of Mormon, Another Witness of Jesus Christ, to be a true book of scriptures and I find guidance when I read it. I know that I can be with my family forever because of the priesthood that was restored to Joseph Smith from Peter, James and John. I know my Savior loves me and I become closer to him when I attend my church.
Personal Stories
How has attending Church services helped you?
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and there are times when it just hurts too much to do much of anything, but I never miss church. I can feel miserable at home or I can hurt at church, and be nurtured and fed by the Holy Ghost and renewed by taking the sacrament and uplifted by listening to the talks. Music always lifts my heart. I feel my faith surge when I make the right choice to go to church. Unless I'm contagious, that's where you will find me on Sundays, at church.
Could you talk about your baptism?
I knew the church was true when I was four years old. It is a rule that members of the church do not get baptized until they are eight. I thought it was a ridiculous rule, when I knew that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that the Book of Mormon was true, and just everything a four year old knows. I had to wait. On May 2, 1971 I was baptized by my brother in Penticton, BC Canada. My friend Jason was baptized as well. Almost 40 year later, I still know it's true and can still see the red-brown run-off water in the font. No matter the color of the water, I knew I had been washed clean and that I would have every week to renew my covenants and keep clean.
How I live my faith
I live my faith everyday when I pray to God, and read my scriptures. I live my faith by serving my family and friends. When I help my friends at their weddings, or family events, or say hi to the children on their way home from school, in some way I am living my faith. I live my faith by serving the adult women of my church.
