Hi, I'm Lisa.
I grew up in California. I am married with two children. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am 6 feet tall and love to play sports such as tennis, volleyball, and basketball. I love to read, sew, and play with my children. I have a degree in Liberal Studies and I have my elementary school teaching credentials. I am taking a break from work to raise my children.
Why I am a Mormon
My mother was a convert to the church at age 23. I was raised and baptized in the church at the age of eight. When I was eight I couldn’t wait to be baptized. My Mom made sure that I knew what I needed to know before I got baptized. I knew full well what it meant to take on the name of Jesus Christ and giving service to others. I knew that I would be cleansed of sin and receive a remission of my sins. I was active in the church and went to seminary in my high school years. After high school I was having a hard time living the standards of the church and thought that the church wasn't for me. I thought that I could live without the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life.
It has been ten years and I finally have come back to the church. I wasn't happy with the way I was living my life. I wasn't at peace with myself and knew there had to be something out there to help me through the trials I was facing. I was very unhappy and felt uneasy with myself and about the path my life was taking. It took a full year of being humble and improving myself enough to feel ready to speak to my bishop and move on. Since then, it has been easier to recognize the spirit of God in my life. I know when I start to stray that I can turn to my Father in Heaven for peace and guidance. I am more at peace and know where I am headed in life. I am grateful for the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the opportunity to repent of my sins and share of the joy that I feel through continuing to follow His gospel.
I am a Mormon because I believe the Bible and book of Mormon to be the word of God. I can feel the spirit when I read both books. I am forever grateful for the knowledge the scriptures give me. I know that our Heavenly Father is there for all of His children no matter what continent they live on. Joseph Smith restored the gospel of Jesus Christ after the apostasy of His gospel after his death. I'm grateful for the added knowledge that the Book of Mormon gives me of Jesus Christ and his gospel.
Personal Stories
Why do Mormons do family history or genealogy work?
Mormons work on the their family history in order to get to know their families that have passed on. They also do family history to take the names to the temple. In the temple these names are used to connect us (seal us) to our families after we pass away. We can feel close to our families as we do this work. Their spirits are felt as the work is being completed.
What has helped develop greater harmony in your home?
Family home evenings have helped my family become closer together. We are able to read scriptures together as a family and discuss gospel topics. We ask each member of the family how their day has gone and help support them when they have a tough day. Our family has become more in tune with other members and their feelings.
When we choose to watch and listen to uplifting and righteous videos we feel the spirit in our home. We feel peaceful and there is less fighting between spouses and siblings.
How I live my faith
I work with the children in the church. I was teaching the 8 year old children about the Old Testament prophets and stories. Now I work in taking roll and assigning the children talks, prayers, and scriptures to present the following Sunday. I also visit members of the church who are sick, sad, or need someone to talk to. I visit my neighbors who are not of my faith to listen to them and help them in any way I can.
