Hi, I'm Nick
I'm an athlete. I'm a friend. I'm from Las Vegas. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am 21. I am studying Linguistics. I have played sports my whole life. I enjoy being outdoors, travelling, spending time with friends and family, reading, speaking and learning languages and running.
Why I am a Mormon
As I was growing up my parents taught me the difference between wrong and right and that Jesus Chist was my Savior, but I don't think that most young boys completely understand that as we are confronted with so much diversity. I enjoyed sports, outdoor activities, and other fun activities. As I was raised in the church there were activities such as scouts which teaches discipline and respect, camping which teaches respect and enjoyment, and church sponsored sports such as basketball and volleyball which were unifying events and was pretty neat as we began with prayers. Through the activities I learned that Christ wants us to enjoy this life and take advantage of the many opportunities that are presented to us. As a 14-15 year old boy I grew closer to Christ as I attended these events. As I grew older, I began to be more appreciative of what Christ had really done for me. My life changes day by day as I recognize His hand in my life. He has changed my life. Even though my testimony began with activities, I have grown my faith in the Savior more through prayer and life experiences. As I have continued to serve God through service opportunities such as serving a mission for two years in Puebla, Mexico, I have witnessed that God blesses us as we are obedient to the commandments that he has given us. So, to answer the question, the reason I am a Mormon is because I love to enjoy eveyday life while living in harmony with what God has commanded.
Personal Stories
Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?
When I was 12, my dad and I were driving on the freeway. He was driving and I was in the passenger seat. In a split second, a tire bounced over the center divide and came right for our car. There were cars on all sides, so we could not swerve out of the way. My dad just told me to close my eyes and to hold on. The tire went through the front windshield, hit my dads arm, and went into the back seat of the jeep. There was glass everywhere and as a result of that, when i opened my eyes a few seconds after we pulled over, glass fell into my eyes. There were hundreds of tiny shards of glass in my eyes. I dont remember too much because I was in such shock, but I do remember being on the side of the freeway for about 25 minutes as my dad held me in his arms. He prayed to me outloud as we sat there waiting for the ambulance. Once we got to the hospital, they performed an open-eye operation as they picked the glass out of my eyes piece by piece. Everything turned out alright as my eyes work pefectly now. Looking back at this event, I remember feeling at peace as my dad held me and prayed. Experiences like that have shaped my understanding of prayer and how I apply it in my life. God hears our prayers and answers them.
How I live my faith
I live my faith by a few basic principles. I go to church. I pray daily. I read The Bible and The Book of Momon daily. I try to be a good person to those around me.
