Theron: Theron Hurst, Family, Mormon.

Hi, I'm Theron

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married and the father of two children, a son and a daughter and grandfather of seven grandchildren. They are my pride and joy and living together as an eternal family is vitally important to me. I enjoy growing a large vegetable garden and raising livestock. I have made a living as a farmer, laborer and manager. I find helping people to make positive changes in their lives to be very rewarding and look for opportunities to be of service. I enjoy being of service in the church.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church of pioneer stock and raised in a large family. Many of my ancestors walked across the plains and one came across the pacific from New Zealand. The church was very important to them as well as to my parents and they passed that on to me by their teaching but more importantly by their example. They taught us to pray, talked a lot about the importance and benefits of prayer and the most vivid memory I have of my father was when I was attending college and we were looking at and considering purchasing a piece of farm equipment. My mother and I looked at it with him and then walked away. When I turned around I saw my father kneeling beside the machine praying about it. There is no greater teacher than a living example. My parents and other anscestors practiced their religion and passed that on to their posterity. From an early age I have put those teachings into practice and find them to be true teachings and the way to true happiness and peace. In particular that God lives and loves his children and that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, but more importantly, He is my personal Savior who knows me and cares about me.

Personal Stories

What blessings have come through your faith in Jesus Christ?

By trying to have the faith to follow Jesus Christ I have found myself in many situations that I would avoid otherwise because they are generally uncomfortable situations that require me to go beyond what I am comfortable with. But in the end I find that I have learned much from the experiences, in particular, how much Heavenly Father and Jesus love me and desire to bless me. They provide me with physical and spiritual strength to see it through and I find that my prayers are answered in ways that I would never have imagined or thought possible. Through exercising faith in Jesus Christ, I feel his love and know that he is truly mindful of me and my problems and wants to bless me. I know beyond doubt that he does love and bless me because of these experiences.

How I live my faith

I believe priesthood leaders are called of God and when called to serve in the church it is a call from the Lord. I have never been disappointed in accepting a call from the Lord. I have found the most challenging callings to be the most rewarding, for example, teaching 10 to 12, 6 and 7 year olds for an hour every Sunday and keeping them engaged and focused for another hour after that. I later found that leading their parents and trying to keep them on the right path was even more challenging. By far, the most challenging and most rewarding calling is that of being a father and grandfather. There is nothing I want more than to see my children and grandchildren grow with a testimony of Jesus Christ and to follow his example and to reflect that light to the rest of the world. To that end I want to show them how to live and make correct choices so that they can experience the joy an contentment that I feel, and following Jesus Christ is the way to achieve it.
