Hi, I'm Mark Winsor
I 'm a talk show host, attorney, public speaker and entrepreneur. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am married to my best friend and I have 6 children and 5 grandchildren. I have lived in many parts of the country and world and am grateful for the many friends I have made. Some of them are members of my church, and many are not.
I host two radio shows each week on an Internet based station. The Tuesday night show's format is designed to motivate and encourage our listeners to live more successful, prosperous and happy lives. The Sunday Edition takes a similar focus and adds Christian and Bible based teachings.
I am also an attorney and the senior partner of 2 small firms with 6 attorneys working with me. I focus my personal practice on business, real estate and bankruptcy law. My favorite part of practicing law is giving people hope, comfort and counsel during their difficult challenges.
I enjoy serving my family, community and church. To me, the greatest satisfaction and fullfillment in life comes when I am serving my family and others.
Why I am a Mormon
I was born and raised in the church. I served a mission in Norway and soon after I arrived in Norway I began to seriously wonder whether I believed in the God and the teachings of the church merely because of the influence of my parents. I knew that I could only bear testimony to others about Christ and the church if I received a personal witness from God. I knew the church did wonderful things and blessed the lives of millions of people; but that wasn't good enough. I had to know the doctrines were true.
I had been taught to study the scriptures and pray to get my own testimony. I was determined to gain my own testimony and exerted great effort in studying the scriptures, fasting and praying over a period of several weeks. Then, one day my companion and I were teaching a lesson to an interested Norwegian investigator. My Norwegian language skills were still in the beginning stages. I understood, however, that the investigator was having a hard time believing that our message was true.
I began to bear my testimony and to challenge the investigator to kneel with us and pray to gain a testimony. I was suddenly able to speak Norwegian with sufficient fluency to communicate my testimony. I felt great confidence that what I was saying was true. She then knelt with us and offered a heart felt and sincere prayer. During her prayer, I felt the Spirit so strong that I have never since doubted the truthfulness of the gospel or the existence of God. More importantly, I knew then, and know now, that Jesus Christ loves me and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His true church.
I have had many experiences since then that have solidified my testimony but I shall never forget that wonderful experience in a small apartment in Norway.
Personal Stories
What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?
Each day I gather my wife and children together to pray and read the scriptures. I feel it is important to give children as many experiences as possible to help them recognize the Spirit and to understand the promptings of the Holy Ghost. We talk a lot about Christ, His doctrines and his love for each of us. When my children get discouraged, as all of us do in life at times, I remind them that they are a child of God with divine worth and that Christ loves them.
We take time as a family to play together and participate in meaningful activities together. For example, even though my schedule can get overwhelming at times, I decided a few years ago to dedicate two nights a week and participate in Marital Arts with my children. It has been a wonderful experience in bringing our family even closer together and had built tremendous confidence in each of my children.
How I live my faith
I have had many oportunitites to serve in the church and community. I am now the stake public affairs director. It is my responsibility to build bridges of cooperation with leaders in the community and other faiths to accomplish more good in the world. Although the Mormons are known for our missionary efforts, I enjoy getting to know and help many people in the community without any thought of converting them; only serving with them to create a strong and healthy community.
My family and I also find many other ways to serve in the community. I am very involved in the political process and regularly attend town council meetings and other political events. I serve as a precinct committeman and do my best to encourage others to be involved in civic affairs.
I try to teach my children by example and experience that true religion is serving others. If we see a moving van in the neighborhood, we try to help the family load or unload it. We volunteer to take meals to those in need and we donate our time and money as we can to help those who are facing difficult times.
We have been blessed with a larger home and have on many occassions invited individuals or families to stay with us as they have regrouped financially.
I have had wonderful opportunities over the years to teach the youth in scouting, sunday school and early morning seminary (a religion class for high school students held at a nearby church before school each morning). As a public speaker, I have occassionaly presented classes and seminars to church groups and others on wise financial management and prosperous living.
I am truly grateful for the many opportunities I have had to serve others.
