Dr. B.: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Dr. B.

I'm a Librarian and an educator. As a Mormon I believe the glory of God is really intelligence so I share what I know.

About Me

I grew up in a Roman Catholic family. My dad was a shift boss in a gambling casino in Las Vegas. As a teenager I met several LDS youth in my high school and at social events. For the most part they were good kids but a few were on the wild side. I had mixed feelings about Mormons but for the most part I had a positive impression. When I was eighteen after reading the Book of Mormon I joined the Church. When I prayed I received a personal revelation and heard the voice of the Spirit as tangibly as a physical one tell me that Book of Mormon was the word of God, that Joesph Smith was a prophet of God, and the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the only true church on the earth. A year later I went on a mission to the Canada Toronto Mission (M. Russell Ballard). After serving the Lord I went a day after returning home to college where I spent four years studying American History. I eventually majored in library and information studies and became a library director. I have worked for the past twenty years helping people learn accurate and truthful information about many things including religion.

Why I am a Mormon

I am married to a wonderful wife who is also a convert that is talented and intelligent. My wife's father is a retired Protestant minister who told me that if God were an anthropomorphic being he would probably be the Mormon God. We have seven daughters and one son. Four of our seven daughters have served as missionaries (Korea Daejeon, Rome Italy, Taiwan Taipei, and Philippines Cebu). I am looking forward in retirement in a few years to going on my own missions with my wife. I love discussing why I am a Mormon.

Personal Stories

Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?

About three years ago my former mission president and now LDS apostle M. Russell Ballard encouraged us to use the Social Media to share the gospel. My wife had recently gotten involved with blogging and started a blog Hieing to Kolob. I wanted to be able to relate to her and have something in common so I started my own blog Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord. The blog was missionary-related. On my blog I relate various things including my experiences from many years ago as a missionary. I also report four of my seven daughters experiences as they have served the past five years as missionaries in the Korea Daejeon Mission, Italy Rome Mission, Taiwan Taipei Mission and Philippines Cebu Mission. I have discussed with many people of other faiths various concepts on my blog. I am now becoming involved in online missionary work by sharing the gospel with my friends through the use of Facebook.

Can you talk about the missions of the Church and your participation in them?

There are 340 missions of the church. I have lived in thirteen different places during the past 25 years or about ten of those mission. I have been involved with missionaries in most places that I live going out with them and sharing the gospel with the people they are teaching. Currently I am involved in identifying all the missionaries that have ever served in a particular mission and I am compiling a list of links of any that have information online. I have completed around 40 of the missions on my blog Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord. I also share news of what is taking place in missionary work in the individual missions. I am currently volunteering with the missionary efforts helping online missionaries learn about ways of using social media to share a gospel message.

Why do Mormons go on missions?

When I was a member of only one year I went on a mission. I was called to serve among the Italian people in Italy and Canada. Being a descendant of Italian grandparents I had a special feeling towards people who came from other cultures. On my mission I was assigned to anyone that spoke a language other than English since I had studied Spanish and Italian. I wanted to share with the people I contacted how joining the Church changed my life and how it could change their life too. I went on a mission because finding the gospel changed my life and I knew it could change the lives of people I shared it with.

How I live my faith

During the past two years I have been involved in teaching in my church. I have been in the Sunday School presidency where I help prepare and assist teachers to deliver meaningful messages. I also teach from time to time helping students of all ages learn the messages that Christ and his early apostles shared with us.
