Kevan: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Kevan

I am a writer, a bagpiper, a future movie director, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I’ve been a Utahn for most of my life. I moved to Colorado when I was about six years old but I soon returned. I like it here but I think I would like to travel more. I enjoy seeing new places, new faces. I wish to travel the world, at least bits and pieces here and there. I am confident Ill at least make it to Canada before I'm too old. I enjoy writing poetry and stories, I am writing a book. I have that dream, that hope, that maybe its going to open up a door and take me places. That would be something, wouldn’t it? Along with writing I love TV Broadcast and Cinematography. I have always enjoyed picking up a camera and trying to make something fun, something that people can enjoy watching. Making people smile and laugh has always been a goal of mine. I enjoy seeing people be happy. A lot of smiles I have seen come about from my music. I am taking lessons for, I love, and I play the Great Highland Bagpipes. It’s something different, that people don’t see too often, and I love sharing it with friends and others that I may cross paths with. The Bagpipes, when played right, have a very spiritual power. They can really touch your soul, it’s been quite an experience to learn and share that skill. Apart from all these things I love to do, I love; more than anything, serving my Lord, Jesus Christ. The peace and joy I receive from that is far more important to me than anything else I enjoy in life. I have, just recently, been called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have been called to serve in the Taiwan, Taipei Mission. I will be speaking Mandarin Chinese, which will be fun. I took classes in High School and it will be fun to learn to speak it with the people there. I can't wait to go and serve the people in Taiwan. Service is a great gift, it fills you with the Spirit of Christ and brings you closer to your Heavenly Father and also your fellow man. I am very happy for this opportunity in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

There is a peace and feeling of right about this Gospel. If I seek for an answer in the scriptures; the Book of Mormon, or just from the words of the prophets I have always found one. It has always been a satisfying answer, full of hope and peace. This Gospel I have been taught all my life has always pointed me towards something better, something great. It pushes me to reach my full potential and it shows me a straight path to get there. The joy I have received from following the commandments and teachings of the prophets has been greater than anything else the world could ever offer me, and it feels good. It feels good to know that I have this foundation to help me through the long future ahead, and to have that feeling that I am fulfilling what my Father in Heaven wants me to do.

Personal Stories

Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?

I teach them by example. I have many friends who are not members or just not active in the church. By obeying and living my life as the Prophets guide, I set an example for my friends. I hope that through my actions they can see how the LDS Church differs from others. I hope that through my actions they can see my love for the Savior. I know that people watch us. I try to live by the guidance that the Modern Day Prophets have given me so that when my friends see me they can feel good, and that they may feel the Joy that the Gospel brings into my life.
I invite them to things like Church, or Institute, and other activities. Afterwards I will ask them questions to see how they felt. When I have that understanding of their thoughts it then helps me to focus more on that good feeling they felt, try and work on that point. The more I can show them the Joy of the Gospel the more they will be willing to want that in their lives.
As a missionary I have learned that success is not about someone becoming totally converted in my time with them, but my purpose is just to bring them closer to Christ. My friends may not accept the Gospel fully or desire to be baptised, but the Joy they recieve from understanding and taking just a few steps to Christ is beautiful. I know that they will recognize where the Joy in my life comes from, by feeling that light in their life, and they will seek it and find the Savior waiting with open arms. He loves them and I know that He is patient and will wait for them. He will leave no one behind, He will forget no one. His love is infinite and universal.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to obey the commandments, showing love towards others, giving service where I can; whether that’s shoveling a sidewalk or listening to someone when they need to talk, trying to keep peace in my home, showing love to my parents even when it’s hard, being patient with everyone, serving faithfully in my church callings; I teach a primary class every Sunday. There are so many things, big and small. I try to teach friends and others principles which I live, and I try to bare my testimony when I can to let them know my true love and care for what I believe.
