Hi, I'm Whitney
I'm a Speech Pathologist, wife, and mother of a heart baby. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I received my Masters in Speech Pathology and am currently working in the schools. My husband is working in sales and still going to school. We have a little munchkin that was born with a heart defect known as Pulmonary Atresia (Where the pulmonary valve doesn't open). He had 5 heart surgeries by the time he was 8 months old. But we're taking a break from surgeries right now and he is off his oxygen and in the process of learning to crawl. He's doing what we call the 'inchworm'. When I'm not at work helping my students communicate, I'm at home changing diapers, singing kid songs, and cleaning food off my little guy's face, the floor, the walls, etc! I love to read and try to sneak in some reading during nap time. I also own a vinyl machine and love to make vinyl crafts. I have vinyl quotes in every room of our house. To sum it up... I love my husband, my baby, reading, crafts, scrapbooking, dancing, sleep (because of my lack of it!), fried ice cream, fall leaves, Sunday walks, my work, a clean house, cookies, my pillow, blogging, children's books, snail mail, and the gospel.
Why I am a Mormon
My family was on vacation in St. George Utah when I first finished the Book of Mormon by myself. I remember going into the bathroom, kneeling by the toilet, and asking my Heavenly Father if the Book of Mormon was true. I received the answer through the thought "you already know it's true." I grew up as a member of this church and I've never doubted that it is the true gospel on the earth today. I know that by living the teachings of this gospel we can lead happy, fulfilling lives.
Personal Stories
Please share your feelings/testimony of Joseph Smith.
I had the opportunity to complete a semester of college in Nauvoo, Illinois, a settlement of the early Saints (Mormons). During that semester I also had the opportunity to visit many historical sites of the Mormon church including Joseph's Smith's homes, the grove of trees where the First Vision took place, and the home where the Book of Mormon translation was completed and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was organized. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to walk were Joseph walked and to learn more about the first Mormon Prophet. I am so grateful for the great faith of Joseph Smith, that at the young age of 14, he knelt in a grove of trees and asked God which church he should join. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and told him that the Church of Jesus Christ was not on the earth at that time. I will be forever grateful for the dedication and faith that led him to restore the Church of Jesus Christ, translate the Book of Mormon, and endure many trials so that my family and I can have the blessings of this church today.
How I live my faith
I live my faith by trying to be a good example at work, home, and in the community. I work with the 8 and 9 year old girls in my Ward (Mormon word for Congregation). We get together twice a month and have activities that help the girls learn about living the gospel, serving others, and developing their talents.
