Hi, I'm Peggy
I'm a Mormon. There are Mormons in Wisconsin! :D
About Me
I was born in Illinois to two wonderful parents. I was raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I lived in the typical 1950's neighborhood, young families with tons of kids. I met my eternal companion, my husband Michael ,through my brother. We married in 1981. We moved to many places due to his career in aviation, which were Minnesota, back to Illinois, Tennessee, Mississippi, back to Minnesota and finally to Wisconsin. I am the Mother of seven children, four daughters and three sons. I like to garden, read, cycle, sew, camp, play with my horse and chill at home. We live on a small hobby farm with horses, chickens a goat cats and dogs. We live about 20 miles south of Red Wing, Minnesota on the Mississippi, beautiful!
Why I am a Mormon
I was raised in a home that had two different philosophies of religious beliefs. I am very grateful for this because I questioned as a young girl, which one was right? I would pray at night to God about needs that I had. As I grew older my concern for the truth faded. My Father taught me about God and I respected his faith. I also wanted to know what I should teach my children concerning God when I became pregnant with my oldest son, my first child. This question dominated my thoughts during my pregnancy. I began to pray, what would I teach my child? I wanted to give this child the tools needed to be happy and safe in the ever changing world. What parent doesn't want that for their children? I also wanted to strengthen my marriage. A Uncle of mine, invited my husband and myself to a church function while we were visiting his family in Arizona. We went to the visitors center located at the Mesa Az temple. There we learned the reasons why the church builds temples. We also learned about the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I had the very strong feeling that what I was learning was true. We were told to pray about it to learn for ourselves if what we had felt and heard was true. We did as suggested. I gained a testimony of the restoration gradually. All of the longings I had as a young girl were answered because of my unborn child and my desire to be a good mother. I knew where I came from, why I was here on earth and where I can go when I die. How comforting to know that I really have a purpose and that when I leave this earth I will have a purpose also! We were both baptized into the church 26 years ago and I have never regretted it.
Personal Stories
Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?
Prayer has a very special place in my day to day activities. Everything is spiritual to God. I therefore pray about everything, I know that my Father in Heaven never grows tired of listening to me. Prayer is also an opportunity to express my fears, joys, questions and gratitude to Him.
How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?
The plan of happiness gives my life purpose because I know that I have a goal when my life here on earth ends. It is to be with my Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and my earthly family for all time and eternity. That's a long time!
How I live my faith
I strive to live the commandments that God has set forth. I have had callings or responsibilities with in the church that have helped to gain a stronger testimony of the gospel. I have served in the young childrens organization(18mos.-12 yrs), young women organization(12yrs-18yrs), cub scouts. I have gained a lot of knowledge and confidence through these callings and have made lasting friendships. I also strive to study the scriptures to gain strength and wisdom so I can better understand the commandments of God. I hold the sabbath day as a sacred day and attend my church meetings to "recharge" myself and use it as a day to rest from the busy world.
