Chat With a Mormon Online
I have been a member of the Church for 37 of my 61 years and have no regrets at ever having made the decision to be baptized. In my Church life I have served in many callings. I have served in 5 Bishoprics in the callings from Bishopric Councilor, Executive Secretary and Ward Clerk. I have also twice been a Ward Mission Leader, Primary Teacher, Sunday School Teacher. I Have served in several Sunday School Presidencies, and as a Family History Consultant, and Ward Newsletter Editor and my latest calling is as the Ward Website Supervisor. I, am now on a Disability support Pension, having previously been a Project Engineer, Gunsmith Technician, Marine Engineer, Automation's Technician, Computer Technician and Network Engineer, In 2006 I became the World's most published Amateur Poet in Books and Electronic Media. I was awarded Published Poet Awards, along with Editor's Choice Awards over a number of years. Being a Latter-day Saint by not attending the Annual Poet's Conference in Las Vegas, I made myself ineligible for the $20,000 US Dollar prize. I am glad, because I would much prefer to live my religion, and honour God for the talent's given unto me, than be honoured and feted by Men. Living one's beliefs is more important than following the trends and fashions of the World. They will not bring Men Salvation. In June of last year I was in Hospital unable to move due to two bulging disks in my spine pressing on my sciatic nerve today I am back training on a road racing bike.
Why am I a Mormon? the answer is quite simple. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is true in all its aspects, Doctrine, Principles and teachings. I have had 35 years to prove or disprove these things but I have yet to find one single solitary fault in any of these things. When I joined, I knew without a shadow of doubt that this was the true Church of Jesus Christ on the Earth. No man or woman told me this, but I knew from the confirmation from the Holy Ghost that this was an absolute truth, and when I went down into the waters of Baptism I had now passed the point of no return and could not turn back. I went into those waters of baptism with my eyes wide open and knew the decision I had made was the correct decision, and I was committed to the long journey of learning and experience and my own personal growth and eternal progression. I consider it a great privilege to be a member of this the Lord's true Church of Jesus Christ upon the Earth today and to have held the Priesthood and authority for the last 35 years has been the making of my life and the moulding of my Character. I know with every fibre of my being this Gospel is true and I would not give up my faith for all the riches of the world. The most prized possession is my testimony and the knowledge of the true Nature and Character of God and Jesus Christ.
Payer is a very important part of my life because without God I am nothing. I neither have sufficient strength or the wisdom to live my life totally devoid of God, and my Saviour Jesus Christ. Everyone in their lives daily come to some crossroad or another, and they need help in deciphering the myriad of options, and the flow of information often thrown up at these crossroads to determine the best possible choice that we can make to keep our lives heading in the right direction. I am a firm believer in prayer and I am committed to prayer in my life for its greater blessings.
It has brought me closer to God by its clarification of Gospel Truths and is a companion volume to the Bible and clarifies many misconceptions or vagaries contained in the Bible
My personal prayers have always in someways been answered for me, but only in the way best for me , and each has been answered in God's own way , and according to his pleasure. I have received answers instantaneously or in other cases at some later date, but in all honesty I can state that there has never been a personal prayer that has not been answered, it is only a matter of recognizing the answers when they come.
Loving one another and your neighbor as yourself and doing unto others as I would have them do unto me has helped me overcome selfishness in my own life and to look beyond the the weaknesses of others, having empathy and compassion towards all with whom I come into contact with.
I am helping my family to be successful by living the Gospel to the very best of my knowledge and ability with the belief that example is the greatest teacher. I am the calming influence and the peace maker in my family, but I also speak out when the situation warrants me to speak out, and when I see an injustice I do all with in my power to right those injustices that I see in Society, seeking reparation and equity for all of my Brothers and Sisters who are unable to defend themselves and their God given rights and equalities.
I am grateful to have a full understanding and knowledge the the true Church of Jesus Christ has been restored on this Earth in these latter days and that Man is no longer subjected to the teachings, vagaries and wisdom of Men, but can receive Wisdom, Revelation and and answers from God through the agency and still small voice of the Holy Ghost whispering truths unto our hearts and souls.
I know without a shadow of doubting that Joseph Smith was and still is a Prophet of God and is the only Man in recorded History of this World to have seen God and Jesus Christ together in the one and same setting and place together. I know because the Holy Ghost has borne witness of this truth to my soul and I have had the privilege of seeing for myself through my own spiritual eyes what transpired in that sacred grove at Palmyra in New York State in the year 1820.
Foe me personally, hope is based in my faith and trust in God and Jesus Christ. Hope is my perceptions and the fulfillment of my goals for that which I desire to become. My hope is my own personal vision for that which I one day eternally aim to become. Hope is my desired for Salvation and oneness with God and Jesus Christ in becoming mirror images of them in my personality, character and attributes having become just as they are, that is my hope and aspirations.
Making right choices helps us to develop a pattern and habit of making right choices in our own lives, and so as a Man thinketh so doth he become. With each right choice we make it makes it easier to make more right choices because we enjoy the benefits and blessings that come from each of our right choices.
As a person that has been subjected to trials, afflictions and disabilities all my life the knowledge of the Plan of Happiness has allowed me to rise above all pain and affliction and to see all the positives in life while gaining untold blessings in the process. This knowledge has allowed me to achieve much beyond my natural and physical capabilities through my having faith and trust in God and Christ and in seeking to overcome every trial and affliction crossing my pathways.
The Book of Mormon has awakened my Soul to the knowledge and truth that Men are Eternal Entities and that they were organized so as they might eternally know joy, from the understanding that we can become exactly like God and our Elder Brother and Saviour, Jesus Christ. It is coded into our Spiritual DNA and all it requires is for us to find our own keys to unlock this store of our own Eternal DNA and capabilities. We are responsible for our own Salvation and Eternal Destiny.
The threefold Mission of the Church is to 1. To preach the Gospel, which I do by taking to people and explain the beliefs, the principles, the doctrines and precepts of the Gospel of Jesus Christ when ever the opportunity to talk about it is opened up to me. I also seek to live these things and be an example of righteousness unto others and to live up to all the Covenants that I have made unto God. I also make my time available to the Missionaries where-ever possible when they ask me to go out and visit those whom they are teaching and extend an invitation for people being taught to have the lessons here in my own home. 2. To Strengthen the Saints. I do this by sharing my testimony and witness unto them as often as the opportunity arises. I also seek to set a righteous example unto them that they too may follow and I seek to expound my understanding and knowledge of the truth when they have questions and are seeking the answers. 3. Redeem our righteous dead. I love genealogy and family history research and have been involved in it for all my years in the Church. I have been fortunate enough to have research in excess of thirty family lines back unto Adam. I thoroughly being able to attend the Temple as often as my health and personal circumstances allow me to do the saving ordinances on behalf of my kindred dead by proxy. I testify that we cannot be saved without our righteous dead, those who had not the opportunity to hear the Gospel preached whilst in their mortal journey, but whom would have received it had they had the opportunity to receive it in their generation.
In daily life there are many choices we all need to make but for which many we cannot foresee or possibly know the long term consequences of. I try to base all my decisions on the morality of the choices available to me not necessarily on the legality of them then act in faith and trust in the Saviour and God for the successful outcomes. Many choices can be legal according to the Statutes of Men, but not be moral in the eyes of God. I seek to make my choices in any given circumstance based on the morality of that choice not merely because the Law of the Land says it is Legal only to find out it is not moral. it is far better to accept the moral consequences than it is often to accept the consequences of Legal choices.
Why I share the Gospel or it's principles and precepts with others is because I want them to receive the same level of blessings and truth that I am privileged to have in my life. How I share it is by being open and frank in all my discussions on Gospel related conversations and seek to set a good and worthwhile example unto them whilst extending unto them an invitation to come unto Christ. I also make myself available unto the Missionaries where possible when they are on their teaching assignments adding my witness and testimony of the plain and precious Gospel truths to theirs.
My talents and gifts were not given to me to solely benefit me, but were given to me as a resource to call upon in helping others to achieve growth in their own lives. As I help others using my talents and abilities I am in essence helping them to grow, in taking up some of the things lacking in their own life, thereby benefiting not only them but helping me to grow and magnify my own talents and abilities.
The best way that I can shield my family from the unwanted attentions and perversions of the World is teach them correct Gospel principles, and then allow them the freedom to make correct choices for themselves. Reinforcing Gospel principles daily is the surest way of allowing my Family to govern themselves in righteousness.
The Holy Ghost has helped me by whispering truth and personal Revelation to my Eternal Soul and Being. The Holy Ghost has helped to discern between Truth and the wily deceptions and half truths generated by Satan.
I strive daily to live my religion by placing my faith and trust in God and my Saviour, Jesus Christ and by seeking to do all that they would have do. My religion is centred in Jesus Christ 24 hrs a day and 7 days a week and as his Disciple I diligently try to follow his Commandment, teachings, and examples. By having traced both my own Patriarchal and Paternal Lines on both sides of my family back to Adam I have discovered that I am direct bloodlines of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and that I am the 81st Generation Great Grandson of Abraham. I am grateful to know of my heritage and God's promises to Abraham and his seed, and that I too can receive the promised blessings of Abraham, Issac and Jacob predicated upon my own personal worthiness. I am striving to be a better person Today than I was Yesterday, and a better person Tomorrow than I was Today. I rely upon upon God, and Jesus Christ for all my blessings of life, rather than upon the arm of flesh, and upon Men and their wisdom and intellect. It is my belief that we were all placed upon this Earth to help one another to become the person that God, and Christ desire for each of us to become. Serving one another is a great joy and a blessing. As one scripture states that " when you are in the service of your fellowmen, you are only in the service of your God". When I ask myself if I have done any good in the World Today I like the answer to be a positive yes. If not it saddens me and I determine to do much better Tomorrow.
