About Me

I am currently finishing my undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering and I am preparing for dental school. I love participating in sprint triathlons, singing, dancing, playing the piano and spending time with family and friends. To be short, I love living life!

Why I am a Mormon

I love the Lord Jesus Christ! I have come to know for myself by the power of the Holy Spirit that the Church the Savior organized during His time on earth is again functioning as it did anciently. For over five generations my family has received the blessings associated with the Priesthood, hearing and obeying the counsel of living Prophets and Apostles, and studying the Holy Scriptures. My life as a full-time college student preparing for Dental School is super busy, but I find peace in living the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. My family has been sealed together by one possessing the authority from God, such that our happiness doesn't end at death. I'm preparing to be married by that same authority so I will have my wife and future children for all of time and eternity. I can think of no greater joy than that which results from obedience to the commandments of our Heavenly Father.

Why do Mormons go on missions?

I served a two-year period of missionary service in California because I have been so richly blessed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I began saving my money when I was very young so that for two years, I would be able to dedicate my entire focus and effort on inviting others to come unto Christ. I feel it would be selfish to not share the joy I have received with others. Though I am not currently a full-time missionary, I still enjoy sharing the Savior's love with others. An indescribable joy comes as I see others draw close to Jesus Christ and make the changes in their lives that will bless them and their family now and in eternity.

How I live my faith

I thoroughly enjoy serving others. Jesus' invitations include "Come, follow me" and "Go, and do thou likewise". He is my perfect example and I want to be more like Him. I follow Him by sharing the gospel with my friends, planning service projects to benefit my community and the University I attend, and making regular visits to a few individuals who attend Church with me to meet their needs. The Savior blessed the masses, but he ministered to individuals. He is the Good Shepherd of us all. I follow Him by doing my best to bless the lives of others through simple acts of service and love. I draw closer to my Heavenly Father as I pray several times daily and as I search for answers to my questions in the Holy Scriptures.

What is the priesthood?

The Priesthood is the power and authority that God gives to man to bless his children. It includes a call to serve others. In Matthew 10 in the Bible we read about when the Savior gave that authority to the Twelve Apostles so they could preach the gospel, serve individuals, and heal the sick. Those same things happen today because the Priesthood was restored to the earth. I know the Priesthood is real. I have experienced special blessings and miracles in my own life as a direct result.

I like to approach questions by looking at the words of things

"priest" has reference to either the concept of one who leads, one who is elder, or one who is holy I like to remember that the words 'holy' and 'whole' are linked by a common ancestry. When something is 'holy' it's essentially saying that it's complete, that it's healthy..

And "-hood" makes reference to the state of being, and not just any state of being but a state of being that's worthy or correct for it's placement. That is, that it's done properly.

So one could say the priesthood is leadership or a point of reference that's completely suited to the position in which it's been placed.

Another way to look at it is to say it's God's perfect order. That is, it's God's perfect arrangement.

In our Church we often give a definition of priesthood as being "the authority to act in God's name" and that's exactly what it means to be a part of God's perfect order. If God commands something to be done by you, and you do it, then you are acting under, and with that portion of God's authority that he's permitted you to exercise within his perfect order.

Just as with any instance where someone tries to act in the name of someone else there are bound to be those who try and do so falsely. That's why God has things ordered in such a way that one can know for certain if someone has His God's authority, or not.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Serving a mission is a priesthood responsibility, and young men are asked to sacrifice two years in order to serve others, gain experience as followers of Christ, and grow in their faith. However, that is a choice each individual has to make on their own and deciding not to go does not affect a person's standing in the Church. But those who do go, men and women alike, usually find that two years is not enough time and wish they could stay longer. Service creates bonds of love for the people you serve. I was unable to go in my young adult years, but I still yearn for the opportunity and look forward to a time when I can serve as a missionary.
