About Me

I'm happily married to my high school sweetheart of 31 years. We have both been blessed to be life long members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints ( the mormons ). We have four children - three married, and one serving a mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to a family of members which made it easy to pattern my life after my parents example. I was in my late teens, however, when I needed to know for myself if that is the life I wanted. After much study, prayer, pondering, and soul searching, I had the assurance come to me that this was the way our Savior would want all of his children to live - to follow Him. He wants us to do more than just believe. He wants us to be actively involved in gaining knowledge, serving others, and improving our lives and reaching out to improve the lives of others.

Personal Stories

Can you think of a specific challenge in your family that Gospel Principles helped overcome?

I have lost two nephews to early death as young men. The doctrines found in the gospel of Jesus Christ have given our family hope and understanding about where we came from, the purpose of our life here, and what happens following this earth life. Having the answers to these questions is a great source of comfort.

How I live my faith

Being a member of this church is highly interactive. It is not a Sunday event but rather a total lifestyle with the church centered in all that I do. Each is asked to participate in some meaningful manner. I have had the opportunity to serve members of our ward (regional congregation) in many positions and currently work with young men ages 12-18. While it is time commitment, the satisfaction of seeing young people make good decisions in their life that are backed by their faith is worth every minute of it.

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Thomas S. Monson who is a prophet, seer, and revelator and the president of the church. We are thankful authorized apostles and prophets live on the earth once again. We believe he receives modern day revelation from God and Jesus Christ as he conducts the affairs of this world wide church.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

We do not drink coffee, tea, alcohol, use tobacco, or illegal drugs because of a commandment known as the Word of Wisdom.

The Word of Wisdom was a commandment revealed to the prophet Joseph Smith in 1833. It tells us the importance of keeping care of our bodies because they are temples. (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)

We know that while from the outside it may seem restrictive it really gives us freedom it blesses us physically and spiritually. The things that we are counseled to stay away from in this law from our loving Heavenly Father help us keep our agency. When you are addicted to something you have given up some of your agency, it controls you. Satan tries to use addictive things to bind us down so we cannot focus on our relationships with the Lord.

In addition to us keeping our agency we are promised these things in the Word of Wisdom: "all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments... shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures... And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the destroying angel shall pass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen." (D&C 89:18-21

So those who keep the commandment are able to be in tune with the Holy Ghost more. That is a great blessing because it is the Spirit that helps us stay on the path to eternal life and teaches us all spiritual truths.
