Travis: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Travis

I grew up in a small town. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 22 years old. I am married for time and eternity to my wife. We've only been married for a short time, but we are looking forward to the eternities together. I am currently attending college. I am working toward a degree in Forestry. I served a full time mission for the church from 2007-2009 in Sacramento, California. I have six siblings, four brothers and two sisters. My wife and I have one son, so far. I enjoy working with my hands. I would love to spend months at a time in a cabin in the woods if time would permit. I enjoy anything about the outdoors, hiking, camping, backpacking, etc. I was very active with the Boy Scouts when I was younger. I love spending time with family. The ideal situation is when the whole family is out on a camping trip together.

Why I am a Mormon

Well, I was born into a family that belongs to the LDS church. I was raised as a Mormon and taught many of the values that I now cherish. The most important thing is that I CHOSE to be baptised. I was only eight, but I distinctly remember my parents telling me that I had a choice. I understood that I could choose not to be baptized if I wanted to. So I thought about the things I had been taught. I took time to make a decision. I wanted to know for myself that I was doing the right thing. I prayed about it. Even though I didn't have an experience like Joseph Smith, I felt something. At eight years old at my bedside, I felt something like never before. I knew what I had to do. This testimony has been confirmed to me over and over throughout my life. i made the right decision. Heavenly Father restored His church through the prophet Joseph Smith. I know that now as much as I did then.

Personal Stories

How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?

In August 2009, my 19 year old sister passed away suddenly. It came as a shock to the entire family. She was loved by her family, friends and coworkers. She bettered everyone she came in contact with. It is easy to ask why god would allow such a good person to pass away when she could have touched so many lives. It's natural to miss and mourn her, but the knowledge of the Plan of Happiness gives hope. Even though she is separated from us now, we are still a family and will see her again in the life to come. This has brought comfort into my life and helped me to comfort others who face the same trial.

Why do Mormons go on missions?

The answers for this question vary from person to person. As for myself, I served a mission because I have something to share. I couldn't keep it to myself. It is a calling from the Lord to share His gospel to those who are in need of it. I was excited to go and share what I had experienced myself. I still do, as much as I can. I served a mission because I know what it can do to change people for better.

How has attending Church services helped you?

It lifts my spirits. It seems that any trouble that I seem to have is mentioned sometime in church that week. Whether it is in the sacrament meeting talks or something someone says in a Sunday School class, I always seem to get my answers there.

How I live my faith

I have the opportunity to visit some of the members in their homes. I go with one of the other members of our church and we visit some families and teach them about what the prophet and apostles have said lately. I also take any opportunities to serve that I can. Whether it's doing yard work or just visiting someone in the hospital, I try to do what I can.
