I'm a book worm, a travel bug, and a working mother of three. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a busy 30-something mother of three kids under the age of five. I love being a mom, and I also love my part-time job as an editor for a public policy organization. I love to travel and spent a year living in France. I also enjoy reading books on politics, economics, ancient religions, and medicine. In what spare time I can scrape together, I run, play piano, or cook. But don't ask me to do anything crafty - I'm terrible at it!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family and usually walked a pretty straight line. However, my intellectual curiosity has at times led me through periods of intense soul-searching and doubt. I struggled for awhile to discover what I believed apart from my family. But through study of both secular and spiritual materials, prayer, and a conscious choice to have faith, I have discovered what is real and true. Not only does the gospel make sense in my head, but I have a conviction of its truth in my heart. And as I continue down life's road and witness more miracles, that conviction goes deeper. I feel immensely blessed to know why I am here, what I should be doing with my life, and what happens after this life. I am eternally grateful for Jesus Christ and His atonement that unlocks the door to salvation. And I'm grateful for the ways the church and gospel bless my life and my family - we're happier because of it!

How I live my faith

I have the privilege of serving needy women in my community through the Compassionate Service program of the church. Whether it's organizing meals for new moms, rides to doctor's appointments, or help with housecleaning for sick or elderly ladies, it is such a blessing to be able to serve. It helps me to more truly love others, and come to understand how Jesus loves each us an knows us personally.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

The priesthood in the Mormon church isn't so much an "honor" as it is a responsibility. That responsibility and role is given to men, and personally, I think it makes them better men. Holding the priesthood requires them to be faithful to their spouse, have faith in God, treat their families with respect, and serve others. Women hold positions in the church that are not open to men, and those positions help women to capitalize on their strengths. What really matters though, is that women can have just as close a relationship to God as men can, whether they hold the priesthood or not.

Family is very important in the church for more reasons than can be explained here. Holding the priesthood is just one of these reasons. Husbands act and bless their family with their priesthood, but wives benefit and honor the priesthood through their husbands. It is a symbiotic relationship. As I have participated in the church in various activities I have come to understand my importance as a woman in the church. There cannot be one without the other.

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

We absolutely believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. We believe that He was the God of the Old Testament. Under the direction of the Father, He created the earth. He spoke to the Old Testament prophets such as Noah, Abraham and Moses. He was born to the virgin Mary in Bethlehem. He walked among the people of Palestine, working many mighty miracles. He suffered and died for our sins. He rose from the grave and ascended to Heaven to stand on the right hand of the Father. We believe that He appeared alongside the Father to the prophet Joseph Smith. Today, He is at the head of our church and leads it through the prophet and twelve apostles. He will come again to reign upon the earth with all those who have faith in Him. Through Him, and Him alone, we can be forgiven for our sins and receive eternal live in the Kingdom of God.
