I am a young college graduate working as a paralegal for a start-up company. In my free time, I love to hang out with my husband and blog or read or sew or craft.

Why I am a Mormon

My faith is the most rewarding thing in my life. My relationship with a loving God gives me purpose and helps me know which direction to take in life. Whenever I feel sad or discouraged. I can turn to prayer and know that everything will be ok. I do my best to keep my life in harmony with my faith and my values and I feel peace and love from my Savior and my God.

In what ways have your prayers been answered?

My prayers are always answered, big or small. I have been healed of sickness, and found things that were lost. I have been comforted and buoyed up in times of difficulty. Even when I don't receive what I asked for right away, I feel peace and love from my Savior and my Father in Heaven that tell me my prayers will be answered in a way that will bless my life more than what I originally had in mind.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith in all aspects of my life by constantly making sure I am making right choices and having charity for all those around me. I read my scriptures and pray every day. I attend church every Sunday and teach a class of 4 year olds about our faith. They are adorable! I visit an LDS temple at least once a month to more closely feel the Spirit of my Heavenly Father.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

We believe that we were formed in the image of God. We believe He is our loving Father and that He has a plan for our lives. He will always do what is best for us even if we do not understand it at the time. He lets us make our own choices, good or bad, but He is always merciful and forgiving if we repent. If we are willing to follow His counsel, He blesses us beyond what we can imagine.

This question is easily answered in the words of one of the children's songs "I know my [Heavenly] Father lives, and loves me too". We believe in a loving God, who knows us each individually. Another way I know that God loves me because he has heard and answered my prayers many times. Some people think that God is angry, but I do not believe that is so. Matthew 7:11 reads, "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to those that ask him?" I think that just explains it all- as parents we want the best for our children. God, our Heavenly parent, wants the best for us, too. As parents, we recognize that giving our children everything they ask for isn't necessarily what's best for them. God does this for us also.

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Because we believe in continuing revelation through Prophets as in the days of old, i.e. Moses, Abraham, this is uncomfortable for some people because media has made our Prophets seem like evil men leading people astray, when they are just trying to teach us correct principles so that one day we all may return to live with our Father in Heaven.

Another reason is because we believe in the sacred nature of temples, meaning only worthy members may enter the Temple so people think that evil rituals are performed. However, in reality the nature of the temple is uplifting and beautiful and gives us clarity to what the purpose of life is, the plan of salvation, and other topics such as life, death, and the atonement of Christ. The temple is not "secret, but it is sacred. However, we encourage all to live so that they may one day enter the temple.
