Carrie: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Carrie

I'm a Mormon. My husband Matthew and I have six children and live in Idaho.

About Me

I love to read, sew, play piano, and help at my childrens' schools. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, which makes life more challenging, but is another opportunity to watch the Lord bless my life daily as he helps me raise my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I love to work hard at good causes, and the best cause I know is to live the gospel of Jesus Christ and teach others to do the same. The more I live by the teachings of His church, the more I feel His Spirit guiding and directing my life. I can confidently raise my family in truth through these confusing times because I know that Jesus Christ has provided His restored church with prophets to counsel us as they did in Bible times. As I live by their counsel I have always found it to be true.

Personal Stories

In what ways have your prayers been answered?

My prayers always seem to be answered. I know God is listening and blesses me with what I need. When I pray for one of my children to find a good friend, or for help knowing how to help a child, or just for strength to overcome my illness and get things done, He always helps me. I feel answers come to my heart, especially when I take time to listen after I pray, and as I read the scriptures.

Why do Mormons do family history or genealogy work?

I do family history work because I truly believe that all people must be baptized by proper authority in order to dwell with God again. I want all of my ancestors to receive the opportunity to choose whether or not to accept the ordinance of baptism, and the ordinance of being sealed together as a family for time and all eternity. This is what we do in the temples.

As I work on my own family history, I am filled with a great love for my ancestors and a desire to learn all about their lives. I share this love with my children through books we create to remember past generations. Also, as I have recorded the life stories of my parents and grandparents, it captures their lives for future generations who can enjoy them as much as we do.

What have you done successfully to shield your family from unwanted influences?

There's a lot of filth out there on the internet, in books, on TV, and just coming from some people. As a mother, I want to keep my children from seeing or hearing it, but I can't always. We have an internet filter, but we help them to have a much more important filter in their heart. We teach them that if there is something inappropriate, get away. If you can't get away, turn away. Sing a song in your head. Pray for help. Do what you must to protect your own heart from unwanted images, words, or whatever uninvited thoughts come your way.

How has attending Church services helped you?

I feel so strengthened each week as I attend church. I refocus on my purpose in life and recommit to the covenants I've made. I go forward ready to give the next week all I've got. And I try to find someone I can help that week, which lessens my own burdens.

What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?

We spend time together to make our family stronger. Each morning at breakfast, we read from the scriptures together. We are just finishing the book of St. John, and the children are developing a greater understanding of Jesus' life and teachings and the importance of his Atonement for our sins.

We also pray each morning and night as a family, as well as before each meal. This reminds us of the source of all of our blessings. I love to hear the children offer the prayers and watch as the Lord blesses us with the things they ask for, whether it is for a job for our unemployed neighbor or better health for an ailing relative. They can see for themselves each day that God lives and loves us.

Each Monday evening, we set aside time to have Family Home Evening. We have a (usually brief) lesson to help us understand the gospel better. Sometimes the children take a turn teaching the lesson. We sing songs, play games, participate in activities together, and always have a treat. It's just a fun time when we're not worried about whether homework and chores are being done, or who's being nice or not, we're just enjoying being together.

How I live my faith

I love to teach the gospel, and have been called as a teacher and leader of children, youth and adults many times. I'm always looking for little things I can do to serve, whether it is tying a quilt for a homeless shelter, collecting books for school children, or taking meals to families during a hard time. When I am caring for the poor and needy I know I am following Jesus Christ's example.
