About Me

I was born and raised in Colorado and have never lived anywhere else...yet. I recently graduated from college and there is a world of possibilities ahead. I married my wife almost five years ago and we were blessed with a son three years ago. I enjoy watching Notre Dame football, and getting outdoors with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined this church while at college after searching for purpose in my life. I needed a change in my lifestyle, but wasn't sure how to achieve a positive change. Through reading the Book of Mormon, I came to know that Jesus Christ lives and that my Heavenly Father loves me. I know I can return to live with my Heavenly Father again, along with my wife and son.

How I live my faith

I have been blessed to have the opportunity to work with the children in our church, as well as with the Boy Scouts of America.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

A Savior is necessary because in order to be in the presence of God, we must be clean and pure. Though we are striving for perfection we cannot do so alone. Jesus Christ atoned for our sins. Through His Atonement, and through repentance we are made clean and pure, and thus able to dwell with God.

The fundamental principle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the faith in, reliance upon, and relationship with Jesus Christ. We regard Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world. Everyone on the earth today has made mistakes. All of us have come short of the perfect example that Christ set for us. The problem is the laws of God state that “no unclean person…hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.” (Ephesians 5:5) Because of these laws, we needed a way to be cleansed from these sins and mistakes. God knew that we would fall short of perfection and by His grace he provided us a Savior, Jesus Christ. Being a perfect soul without blemish, Jesus was capable and willing to take upon Himself our sins. Because He paid the penalty for our sins, the atonement, we must take upon ourselves His name to reap the blessings of forgiveness. We do this by having faith in Christ, admitting and repenting of our sins, and being baptized in the true and restored church of Jesus Christ.

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

I suppose that new and different things have always been a challenge for some. It seems possible that the New Testament Christians might also have been called a cult: they were few in number, taught new, or at least different, doctrines and were lead by strong, charismatic leaders (a study of the early apostles like Peter or Paul bears this out).

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (often called the Mormon church) follows the teachings of Jesus Christ as contained in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. We do not worship our founding prophet (Joseph Smith) or our current prophet (Thomas S. Monson). We teach that men are saved by the grace of Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrice on the cross and that as we strive to follow Him and keep His commandments, that redemption becomes personal.

If others persist in defining the Church as a cult, in spite of our rather obvious Christian beliefs and doctrines, then we will simply have to agree to disagree.
