Hi, I'm Kelly
I'm a Mormon. I'm a Kindergarten teacher and a poet.
About Me
My husband and I commute together by bicycle. We live in the desert and will ride even on the hottest day! We are now empty nesters and make a blended family of 5 children. I have a little hill near my home where I can sit alone and write poems while looking out at a natural spring and my temple far in the distance. The mountains and sky are always changing colors and on hot nights the city lights glimmer like jewels. I feel blessed.
Why I am a Mormon
I have wonderful parents and had a great childhood, but I always felt something was missing. We didn't belong to a church so I went with anyone who invited me. I joined one. But, I did not feel like I was home. I never felt like I had found God or knew how to pray to Him. In college, I tired of my friends and the drinking scene. I prayed in my own wishful way...and knew God heard me and that I was going to find His church. It was Easter, how special is that? I discovered the Church's Institute of Religion where I made many friends and was taught the gospel and learned how to pray. Many times I felt I already knew what I was being taught. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and I feel Heavenly Father's love for me when I read the scriptures and pray. I have moved around a lot, but family and God always feel near. I know I've been blessed.
Personal Stories
In what ways have your prayers been answered?
Recently, my husband lost his job. Months went by. We were surprised. He has many degrees. He was willing to commute, work low wages. We kept praying. I knew we would have to move out of the state. I wanted to stay with the same private school. I knew it would take a relocate for us to move. My husband had lived in our home 25 years. I googled my husband's skills, the cities we could live in. There was one. He had an interview. He was hired. Then the trial came. I survived on prayer. Poetry writing filled my soul. I lived in our home, alone. My husband and I were apart for months. I finished the school year. Then the school did not have any positions. Enrollment was down. I worked as a preschool teacher. part time. I took the opportunity to write poems. Another school year later. I am teaching Kindergarten again.
What have I learned about prayer? Prayer requires studying things out, having faith, patience, and trusting in God's plan. Prayer is what keeps me going. I am thankful.
How I live my faith
I am a cub scout leader and have watched my group of boys mature through many activiites. I treasure a few memories the most: a pioneer day parade and the raising of the flag for our independence day.
My husband and I meet with other "empty nesters" on Monday nights and take turns teaching lessons about the Savior. It's a great way to share what He means to us.
