Hi, I'm LaWana
I believe we are God's Hands on earth. I am a wife, mother, a reading tutor, a counselor and I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I love to read, sing, and spend time with my family and friends. I am a mom, a wife, a rehabilitation counselor and a 4th generation Arizona Native. I love my husband and my kids and I love being a Mormon.
Why I am a Mormon
I was raised in a part member, non active family, but I have amazing parents who loved me and wanted my brothers and I go to church. So my wonderful non-member mom dropped us off in front an LDS chapel most Sundays and I attended church. I remember the first time I heard the Joseph Smith story. I was just a little girl in lace socks and a shiny white leather shoes. I didn't know who Joseph was, but I remember feeling a sense of peace as I heard the account of his prayer and the answer he received. It took me much longer to realize that I was a child of God and that my Heavenly Father truly loved me as a daughter. Once I realized this, I knew that I could be forgiven of my sins and return to full activity. I love being a Mormon. I am not the most traditional Mormon gal. I don't sew, craft or scrapbook, but I know this Gospel is true. I know that I am loved and accepted for who I am. I know that Jesus is my savior and that prayers are answered. I also know God has a plan for each of us and He will help us on our way if we just turn our hearts and minds towards Him. I am blessed to be part of a forever family. Life is good and keeps getting better.
Personal Stories
Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you?
The word succor is used often in the scriptures to describe Christ's care for and attention to us. It means literally "to run to." What a magnificent way to describe the Savior's urgent effort in our behalf. He not only asks us to come unto Him and to follow Him, but He is “running” to help us. Wow, isn’t comforting to think, in fact to know that when we are at our lowest point, when we most need His help that He not only is there to help us, but He will run to help us. I love picturing this in my mind, that like a loving parent His arms are wide open to receive us, just like a mother would do if her child came running to her in pain or because she was scared. Jesus has a forgiving nature. It is who He is. I had no doubt that Jesus suffered for my sins. I had no doubt He came into the world to save the world, but somehow I let Satan whisper to me, that all of that might be true, but it’s different for me. I let that evil voice tell me “He can’t feel that way about you, look at where you came from and look at what you have done”. I had long ago turned away from those sins, and yet, I still let it haunt me. I now realize how unnecessary that was. I realize now how wonderful it is to know I can turn to the Lord and let Him comfort me. Sometimes forgiving ourselves is the hardest part, but we have to; otherwise we are in essence denying the power of our Redeemer. Instead of listening to the voice of the Good Shepherd we are listening to the voice of Satan who will try and convince you that you aren’t good enough, that your guilt can’t be removed and thus you can never be completely healed. That’s what Satan wants, he wants you to believe that Jesus did atone for the sins of the world, but that somehow, you are the one exception and His sacrifice doesn’t apply to you. Nothing could be further from the truth, His atonement does apply to you and every other person who lived on this earth or who will ever live on this earth. If you have properly repented, then let the Savior complete the healing process for you. Stop beating yourselves up and know that you are redeemed by the blood of Christ. Partake of the gift of the atonement and turn to the one “with healing on His wings”.
How I live my faith
I am very active in community affairs like Habitat for Humanity, as a reading tutor for a local elementary school, as a volunteer for a women's shelter and as a teacher in the gospel. I love teaching the little ones. Their hearts are so pure and they feel the Spirit so strongly. I truly "stand all amazed" at the goodness in the world especially in the children. It is my goal to "reflect God" in all that I do at home, in my community and at church. I believe we are God's hands in world and it is our job to lift and help others.
