About Me

I love computers, cell phones, tablets, and any other piece of technology. I work in the textbook industry. I play Dungeons and Dragons, and read comic books. I am married to my best friend, and expecting my first child. I have been blessed with an absolutely fantastic life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because I know this church to truly be the restored church of Jesus Christ. I have explored other religions in my youth, believing that the knowledge shared with me as a child had to be false. No other religion has the fullness of truth, nor did any other make me feel as whole as I do being back where I belong. I am Mormon because it is the only thing I can be. Once you've discovered the happiness that truth brings, why would you go back?

What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?

My family is a new one. My wife and I have been married for less than a year, and our first baby isn't due for several months. Still, we've found that it is important to not take our family for granted. We try to spend time together, and share our thoughts and feelings on any and all subjects. We study scripture together and have shared family prayer in addition to individual prayer. We also try to set aside time every week for Family Home Evening, a time when we can learn more about the gospel and partake in the Spirit together.

How I live my faith

I try to be the best example I can be. I share the joy of the gospel with any that I can, and I live the gospel to the best of my ability. I try to be supportive to new members. As part of my home teaching, I visit with families in the ward to share spiritual messages and help with anything that they might need.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

We believe that marriage is between one man and one woman. This is an essential nature of the plan of salvation. Families are so important and children can and are only meant to be brought into this world through a man and woman together. This is how God created us. We acknowledge the attractions or inclinations individuals may have, but God has made us to have male/female relationships. We love all of our brothers and sisters. We are all God's children and we should treat each other as such, with love and kindness, but we cannot and will not encourage same-sex relations. We believe in Gay rights and tolerance, as described by Dallin H. Oaks, but will always define marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

I grew up in California and was in the middle of the same-sex marriage debate. The Church believes that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that children have the right to be brought into the world with a mother and father who love and honor each other and their marital vows. I agree with this doctrine, so I, along with others of my faith, supported Prop. 8 in 2009. Any time I spoke with someone, I explained that we all, regardless of our side on this issue, are motivated by love. Love of mankind, of God, of society, etc. So much of the debate turned to hatred, but it's important to remember that love is always our initial motivation. I know people, good friends, who live a homosexual lifestyle. They've shown love to me, and I love them, but I believe their lifestyles are contrary to the will of God. That doesn't mean that I can prevent them from doing what I think is wrong, but their liberty does not translate into license. Liberty in America has never been about license to do whatever we choose. When we, as a people, believe something is wrong, it is our democratic right to enact laws against such things. Likewise, if we believe something is divinely inspired, like the institution of marriage between a man and a woman, it is not only our right but our duty to stand up for it. If we don't, I'm afraid that America will lose the protective hand of God that has embraced us for so many years.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Women have a divine role, as designed by Heavenly Father before we came to earth. We were given the sacred opportunity to be mothers and to work alongside the brethren of the church to serve, uplift, and strengthen others. Women are powerful and strong forces for good in the world. We must be careful, however. The world today often tries to demean the divine role of womanhood by over-sexualizing women or saying that they should be the same as men. Women and men are different for divine purposes. I don't want to be a man. I know that Heavenly Father sent me here to be who I am because I can contribute to this great work in a way that no one else can. I'm grateful to be a woman today.
