Why I am a Mormon

When I do what God wants, I feel good. It's a bit of an experiment trying to understand how to live this life. My findings are that living as Christ would makes me happy. The teachings of this church bring me relief, peace, and strength as a person. I'm glad that I believe that people can change and Christ can help. When I think about the long term perspective I've gained from being a member of this church, I feel wise and I feel hope. Good things born from good teachings.

How I live my faith

I help organize and run activities for women in my neighborhood church community. I love the friends I've made in this church. There is no other network like it!

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

This is something I've had to think about a lot. I'm not married myself. Sometimes its hard to believe that two people who are different and flawed could ever make a marriage work. I've spent a good portion of the last 10 years is total awe at people who get married with such sure smiles on their faces. It didn't seem to make any sense.

Then one day I realized I was leaving someone out of the equation. I saw that I needed to have faith in the redeeming power of Christ. He has the ability to compensate for the hard, unfair, frustrating, and heart breaking issues people face in marriages. Christ helps to create fewer gaps. I'm really not sure that I could believe in marriage under any other circumstances. I can say that I do believe in a God that wants my family to succeed and he created a way that this could happen despite people being just people.

Jesus of Nazareth was, and still is, the great healer. It is our faith in Him which enables Him to perform miracles in our lives. Often that miracle is a change of heart which allows us to forgive, see others in a new light, or feel an increased measure of love. Having faith in Jesus as our divine redeemer enables Him to bless our marriage and family relationships with an increased measure of unity and love.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Family is everything to us. Our family spends lots of our free time together because we like each other. Life gets crazy with teenagers, dance practice, after school academic decathlon, usually with a toddler in tow, but no matter what, every Monday night is Family Night.

The kids know that every Monday we spend time together and nothing gets in the way of it. It's our commitment to each other. We bake cookies, have lessons about the Savior, work on personal goals, go to the park, go geocaching, play board games or just go out for ice cream.

We do lots of things together. The point is that at least once a week we spend an hour or two together, just for the sake of being together, just because we love being together as a family. It's not as perfect as it may sound, with all the poking and "she's in my spot," and all the other crazy things family members do to each other when scrambling for a spot in the living room, but we try real hard. It takes effort to make sure we don't miss, but it's worth it.

I'm not sure the kids will remember all the games we played, the places we went or what we did, but I hope they always remember that we loved each other enough to dedicate one night a week to be with each other. And that we spent every Monday night together for as many Mondays as they can remember because family is everything to us, and every member of our family is important.
