Hi, I'm Marilyn
I love music. I love to travel. I was a volunteer for the 2002 Olympics. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. I love being with my family and we enjoy playing games together, eating good food, talking, and making fun memories. My favorite holiday is Christmas...the smells, the sites, the memories, the feeling, & the sounds. My hobbies & interests include singing, playing the piano, violin, guitar, crocheting, sewing, doing crafts, & reading. I love music. I have a degree in Music Therapy & appreciate the power of music to influence behaviors and feelings. I love learning about other countries and people, and have had opportunites to travel with my husband to such places as Israel, Egypt, Rome, South Korea, the Philippines, the Scandinavian countries of Sweden, Finland, & Denmark, and across the United States. I started running at age 55 and have since been able to complete three Half Marathons! I also enjoy gardening & eating yummy, fresh produce. I love to spend time on the beach listening & watching, & I have a collection of seashells - sand dollars, moon snail shells, and others - that I have gathered.
Why I am a Mormon
I was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have chosen to make the gospel, and my membership in the Church, a priority my life. In both times of struggle and in times of calm the gospel has been an anchor and a guide for me. Over the years I have found that as I strive to be obedient to the principles and commandments of the gospel of Jesus Christ and follow Him, I have a greater understanding of who I am and my purposes in life, which brings great peace and joy to my soul. Those things that mean the most to me - such as my family relationships and my relationship with God - have greater meaning to me because of the truths found in the gospel. Those relationships, and serving others, are what really bring happiness and fulfillment to my life. I know the gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth again, with living Prophets who love and guide us today, just as Prophets guided people in days of old. I know that the Book of Mormon, as well as the Bible and other revealed scriptures, contains truth for us in our day. I know that I have a loving Father in Heaven who cares about me and who I can communicate with daily in prayer. I know that my Savior mercifully atoned for my sins so that I can repent and become more like Him. And I know that through restored Priesthood keys I can be together eternally with my family. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and having the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life has made all the difference!
How I live my faith
I am currently an adult leader of a youth group in my ward, specifically over the girls ages 12-18, known as Young Womens. Along with two other ladies, I take turns teaching these girls gospel lessons on Sundays, and help them plan and carry out weekly meaningful and fun activities as a group, and occassionally with the boys their same ages. Some of those activities include playing sports and games, camping, doing yardwork for elderly people, learning cooking and other skills, making crafts, doing Humanitarian service, singing, making up and performing skits, sharing talents, etc. I also make visits to five ladies in my ward each month and keep in touch with them, which is called Visiting Teaching. During these visits I talk with them about important things in their lives, try to get to know them better, and share a spiritual message. I try to look after them and help as needed. I play the organ for our congregation on Sundays, and sing in church choirs when I can. I love the hymns of the gospel and the feeling of reverence they bring to our meetings, and that I receive as I participate. Recently I completed CERT (Comunity Emergency Response Team) training so I could help in my community in the event of a disaster. It was a great learning experience for me and I feel better prepared to help others as a result.
