About Me

I am a college students working to become a music teacher. I play the trumpet semi-professionally, but am working on other instruments and singing to become a better teacher. I am a ping-pong master and enjoy macaroni and cheese.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in the church I felt that this church was right, but I didn't know for sure until I read the Book of Mormon and tried to teach it to a class of 9 and 10 year old children in the church. I have served a mission now and I look forward to being married in one of God's temples. The people in my church congregation are so friendly and caring. This is truly God's church.

How I live my faith

I go to the temple as often as I can and I attend religious classes at the church's institute of religion on my college campus. I have most recently been helping with the organization of the hundreds of records of people who go to church with me.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

When I go to a party I want to walk away remembering the people I met and the things we talked about. With my faulty memory I have a hard enough time doing that. I don't need the influence of a chemical in my body to aid me in forgetting why I was doing something or who I was with. Also, if I go to sleep early and eat healthy in the morning I don't need something to get me up and going every day. I want my body to be in top shape for whatever else may come my way that day, so I am training my body to function properly whenever I want or need it.

God gave us the ability to choose. There are substances in coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco and other harmful drugs that limit our ability to choose. The intent of the law of health we follow is to preserve our ability to make good choices. This law of health is called the “Word of Wisdom”. It not only guides us regarding the substances to avoid, but also those to include in our diet. We are told to eat fruits and vegetables in their season, include grains, and eat meat sparingly. We are promised that if we follow these guidelines we will be healthy, able to learn and accomplish all that is required of us by our various roles in life. I am grateful for the blessings I receive from following the Word of Wisdom.

As a Dietitian I especially love this law of health because as I’ve seen the US guidelines for nutrition develop they are now aligning with what the Lord told us many years before. I believe that the guidelines set forth in our law of health are the minimum requirements for good health. It may be necessary for some people to avoid certain foods or eat a lower fat diet, or avoid caffeine entirely, but these specifics are not mentioned in the law of health and are to be determined by each individual.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

This question is my all time favorite "tough topic" to discuss. I want to start off right off the bat by saying that no matter what you've been told, or who has told you it, Mormons DO NOT "hate" gays and lesbians. Or ANYONE for any reason. Ever. As witnesses of Christ, we do our best to emulate Him and live as He would have us live. That's not to say that we're perfect, because we're not... but I do know that Christ never hated anyone.

Mormons believe in the sanctity of marriage. We believe that God has ordained marriage, and the sacred powers of procreation, to be between a man and a woman. Sexual relations are a sacred thing. We believe that they are to be reserved for marriage. This law, the law of chastity, applies to every spirit son and daughter of God. It doesn't matter if you are attracted to the opposite gender or your same gender, you are commanded to live a chaste and virtuous life. The neat thing about God is that He's "no respecter of persons". This means that God requires the same things of all of us. We are to remain chaste until marriage, and within marriage chastity means that you only have those sacred relations with your spouse.

As a church, we welcome all who want to draw near to Christ. We love everyone, regardless of circumstance, as Christ loves them. We maintain that every single man, woman, and child on this earth is a son or daughter of God, and we treat them accordingly.
