I've been called crazy, I try to have fun with everything that I do, and I'm Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Colorado going camping with my Dad and it's given me a deep love for the mountains and the outdoors. I served two years as a full-time Missionary in the Georgia Atlanta North Mission. I'm going to school in Idaho for a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I've played sports all my life and I love being active. I love to sing, some people tell me I sing too much! But i don't listen to them. I have a strong connection with my family, and believe that true happiness is found in the family.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I love my savior Jesus Christ. And I know that His church has been restored to the earth again, and that it's this church. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I'm a Mormon because I know the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. I've made sacred covenants with God through the Holy Power of the Priesthood and it's the greatest blessing in my entire life!

How I live my faith

To me it's extremely important to "walk the walk," not just "talk the talk." And so I strive everyday to live the standards that I profess. The biggest thing that I've done so far in my life was to serve a full time mission. As a missionary we wear white shirts and ties and go around everyday all day and try to share the Gosple of Jesus Christ with people. It was hard, really hard, because alot of the time we weren't accepted. But I kept going, even though people would yell at me and tell me unpleasent things, I knew that what I had was so precious, and I wanted somebody else to experience that also. And it was so worth it. Jesus Christ is the greatest example and often I ask myself, "what would Christ do if he was in this situation?" And I do what he would do. My life has been so richly blessed by living in accordance to the Gospel of Jesus Christ I just want others to experience the same Joy.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

There are many different things that happen inside a Mormon Temple. It's a place where members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) make sacred two way promises with God called Covenants. These covenants aren't secret, they're sacred, and so we don't talk about them outside of the temple out of respect for them. Members also go to the temple to be married for time and all eternity. Not just "until death do you part" but even after death. We also perform ordinances such as baptism for people who have died without receiving the opportunity to be baptized. A worthy member is baptized in the place of the deceased.
The temple is a sacred place where the spirit of the Lord is and so one must be worthy to enter. So even members of the church must have a special recommend in order to enter.

I used to play in a Balinese Gamelan ensemble here in Washington, DC on weeknights and had some of my friends ask me this question. First, I pointed out that anyone can go into the temple during the open house to see what it is like. After it is dedicated, it becomes holy ground and you have to make yourself clean or holy to go in. I told them that EVERYONE can go to the temple, as long as they are wiling to go through that process of becoming clean. I reminded them that you can't just waltz in to the White House either (much to the chagrin of many tourists here). You have to go through a background check that takes 6 weeks and that is just to get into the East Wing, the West Wing requires a job and security clearance. Our protectiveness of the temple is not a sign of secrecy, it is more a manifestation of how special and important the the building and its rituals are.

And I hope people don't get intimidated by the word "ritual", everyone who has gone through a school graduation has experienced a ritual. It just means that we are participating in life-changing experiences that turn our hearts to God, our families and our fellow men. The real difference is that we believe that process of making devotional promises to God in a sacred place is necessary for our salvation. That is why we encourage everyone to join with us and make their way to the temple.

What is the Book of Mormon?

We believe in a loving Father in Heaven who desires all of his children to have His precious word. "Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?" (2 Nephi 29:7).

Of course, with any thing concerning God, it is important to find out, personally, if the work is true. What better source can we trust than God Himself? Through prayer we can know, independently of anyone else, where the truth lies concerning any matter.

In the introduction to the Book of Mormon we read: "We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost." I testify that this pattern of revelation is true. If we take the time to study it out in our minds, ponder upon the truth and ask God, in faith with desire to act upon our answer, that we will receive. He has answered me, and He will answer you when you ask in faith.
