Hi, I'm Spencer

I've taught kids theatre and am a missionary!

About Me

I'm a missionary for the Church in the Portland, Oregon metro area. One of my favorite things about being a missionary is that I get to meet all sorts of interesting people, as I share the gospel. I want to be a children's writer and a teacher professionally, plus I love theatre, so it's a blast! I've taught K-1st grade creative theatre for four years, and am looking forward to obtaining degrees in related fields. My family and friends mean a lot to me. If you can catch me in my free time, you'll probably find me singing, organizing, or exploring-- whether it be my imagination or the world around me.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has blessed my life. I've seen how my family's and friends' relationships have gotten better as we've put Christ's teachings into action. The doctrine the Church teaches has helped me know those teachings. What I learn makes sense, feels right, and works. That's substance to me. After all, I don't believe a loving Father in Heaven would leave His children in the dark. The best part is that He hasn't! He's restored the church Christ set up, so each of us can have the opportunities and guidance to recieve every blessing we need to be happy. Our families can still be our familes after death. We, through the help of Jesus Christ, can be free from any evil in our past. God wants us to have joy, and He's given us the tools to make it happen.

Personal Stories

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?

Well, all of Christ's teachings have influenced me, but the one that has the most would have to be love. Jesus Christ taught that we should love everyone-- our family, our friends, and even our enemies.

I know Christ was right.

Think how much better our world would be, if we all made an effort to treat others with kindness, respect, compassion, and consideration. There wouldn't be war, or starvation, or theft, because everyone would be looking out for each other. When a person was feeling down, there would be someone to help them feel up. I've noticed, as I've taught, and lived, that people respond to love. It builds a positive atmosphere, and you tend to enjoy things a lot more. People tend to give love where love is shown, and it makes a huge difference.

You might not be able to be a world leader, or famous movie star, or professional athelete, but you can still make the most important differences in the world by loving someone and showing them you love them.

Perhaps that's why Jesus Christ's teaching of love is the teaching that has effected me the most-- it's the most important one.

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

I pray a ton-- since I know I can talk to God anytime, anywhere. Anyone can pray, and you can even pray in your heart or head, if you're not able to pray outloud at the moment!

When I pray, I tell God thanks for all the good things in my life, ask Him for help, or sometimes just talk with Him. I know He listens. I often feel a really good feeling after I pray-- this feeling of peace. It's like God is saying, "I love you, Spencer."

It's that personal.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by loving others as Christ would have me. I notice that so many people in the world don't feel God's love for them. That's sad, because it's so important to know that you have a Heavenly Father who loves you. He wants you to succeed against all the odds! I know if we can help one person know there's someone who truly cares about them, we've done a lot.
