About Me

I am a 51 year old father of 3, grandfather of two. Both of my daughters are married, and I have a son serving a mission. I am employed in Public Service and enjoy cycling, hiking and a yearly Thanksgiving football game.

Why I am a Mormon

Simply put, I am a Mormon because I have a testimony of the truthfullness of the gospel. I know that there is a Heavenly Father who is literally our Father. His son, Jesus Christ came to this earth and Atoned for my sins. He died and was resurrected and is the Living Head of His Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Joseph Smith is the prophet of this dispensation and saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in the Sacred Grove. He translated the Book of Mormon through the power of God. The Book of Mormon is true, and as Joseph Smith said, is the Keystone of our Religion. President Thomas S. Monson is the Lord's Prophet on the earth today. I hearby testify to the truthfullness of this in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I guess the best way to describe how I live my faith, is that I sincerely try my hardest to obey those commandments we have been given, I attend Church every week, try my best to fulfill the callings and assignment I have been given and to live up to all of the covenants I have made, both at my baptism and at the temple. I attend the temple as often as I can. I try to be the best husband, father and grandfather I can be.

I am human and make many mistakes, but thankfully through repentance and the atonement, I am able to continue to progress and work towards becoming the son my Heavenly Father wants me to be.

Currenlty I am our Ward's High Priest Group Leader. This gives me the opportunity to work with many experienced members and learn from their experience and examples. I enjoy serving with them and also helping members both in this calling, and as a home teacher. I currently have 4 families I am assigned to home teach, which calling I hold sacred. I love each of the families and try my best to be a good home teacher.

What is the First Vision?

The First Vision refers to the appearance of God the Eternal Father and His Son Jesus Christ to Joseph Smith in what we call the Sacred Grove. When Joseph was 14 years old he desired to know what church he should join. He was confused by the many different churches in existence at the time and how they seemed to contradict each other. After reading James 1:5 which said if any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God...and it shall be given unto him. Joseph went to the Sacred Grove which was near his family farm near Palmyra, New York to ask Heavenly Father which church to join. While he was there Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ both appeared to him in a pillar of light. Jesus Christ told Joseph not to join any church at that time but that he had a great work to do. In that first appearance, Joseph learned the true nature of God and that both Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ were separate persons with glorified bodies of flesh and bone.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

This is one of the hardest subjects because in today's world the only accepted dialog is love or hate. We firmly decree that homosexual behavior is sinful. This does not speak to the individual, who they are or the feelings they have. Each of us face feelings and desires, some of which are contrary to the will of the Lord. This is one of them.

Our Heavenly Father does not judge us on these feelings, but how we act on them. If feelings are converted to behavior, then sin has been committed.

We believe that marriage is a sacred institution, one that God has intended to be shared between man and woman. We do not believe it is for us to redefine it, and as such would not support a change that would legitimize behavior believed to be sinful.

We love all of God's children. I have several friends who identify themselves as homosexuals. I consider them friends even though my beliefs hurt and frustrate them. I try to help them understand that I can love them and care about them while maintaining these beliefs. Likewise, I would always defend them against discrimination and bullying.
