Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I like to be happy, and I have found that I am happiest when I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. I find so much peace, purpose, and joy in living the commandments of God. I know that my Heavenly Father is aware of me personally and has a plan for me and my life.

In what ways have your prayers been answered?

In my teenage years, I felt confused and unhappy. I wanted to do the same things my friends were doing, but I couldn't figure out why they didn't make me happy or carefree. I came to realize that I wasn't satisfied with the person I was becoming. As I turned to the scriptures, I found John 14:27. "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Living a life through Christ isn't always easy or popular, but it fills me with so much gratitude and hope that it is impossible to deny.

How I live my faith

Being a part of the church has helped me to feel more connected to and cared for by others in my community. I also love using my blog to help others better understand what I believe and how I've found so much happiness in my life.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is a set of instructions on how to care for our bodies. A body is a gift from God, and as such, it should be treated with as much care and respect as possible. We're encouraged to stay away from harmful or addictive substances, to eat healthy foods, stay physically active, and to get plenty of rest. The Word of Wisdom helps us keep our bodies strong and full of energy to do the work we need them to do.

The word of wisdom is the Lord's law of health. We abstain from drugs, tobacco, alcohol, coffee, and tea, and are encouraged to eat wholesome food and grains, and not eat excessive meat. I am asked all of the time by my fellow residents at the hospital why I don't drink coffee, and how I can stay awake all night on call without it. I don't consider it a sacrifice, though, and am as awake and perform as well as any. It is true that the body will be more healthy when following the word of wisdom, the but the main benefit is spiritual. The knowledge that you are in line with the the Lord's teaching is the most important thing.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Mormon women are exactly like non-Mormon women in many ways. Some of us are stay-at-home mothers, while other Mormon women work outside the home. Regardless of our circumstances or choices in terms of employment, we try to work with our husbands and families as a team to get things taken care of within our homes.

My husband is my partner and my best friend and vice versa for him. He doesn't "rule over me" any more than I would do the same to him. We are equal partners in our eternal marriage. The church teaches us to be kind to our families as well as our friends and we want to make our homes a kind of spiritual refuge for everybody.
