About Me

Hey I'm Taylor, I love life and am a student at Brigham Young University, I am not 100% sure what to do with my life but that's ok. I was born in Canada and grew up in the great state of Wisconsin. I love food and friends. I went to Florida on a mission to teach people about the gospel of Jesus Christ and serve them any way i could. I love sports especially swimming and Basketball, but i'm up for anything. I love the Lord and spending time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because it is Christ's Church restored on the Earth again. I know this because I have feel the spirit witness of it when I read the Book of Mormon. It helps me to learn and grow and to become a more devoted disciple of Jesus Christ. It is one of the greatest blessings of my life.

How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?

When i first moved to Wisconis from Canada as I attended school I struggled with my self image and confidence. I really didn't have to many friends and i was struggling with school work the change in the school system and in the form of English written in American Schools versus Canadian ones. As i struggles i remebered in Church that some of the things that are helpful when you are struggling is prayer and scripture study so i.felt strongly impressed to read the Book of Mormon and find out the valitiy of it for myself. As i read day after day what i was reading would apply directly to what i was stuggling with and the spirit was answering a lot of my questions and concerns. I learned that the lord would help me through my trials and that even though the answers wouldn't come all at once to all of my problems as i trusted him i gradually grew in faith of my savoir, and confidence that i was a Child of God and that he loves each and every one of us. As i got older i belive that the Book of Mormon helped me to descern between good influences and bad influences and even though i didn't always make right choices. I believe i was led to make wise decisions concerning how i should spend my time and what kind of Friends i should let influence me there was a point where i had to decide between two groups of friends and where i shoulod spend my time but as i looked at the things each group of friends did and as i felt the spirit come and go as i was with one group or the other I decided to spend my time with the goup of Friends that later all became honor students versus the group that all dropped out of school and were all involved in drugs. I am so greatful for the goodness of God in allowing me the blessing of being able to read the book of Mormon and to learn from the examples of the prophets and to let the spirit testify to me of truth. I know that the Lord does answer our prayers and that the Holy Ghost does testify of truth and as we read the Book of Mormon it will be a blessing to us, our families and the spirit will witness of its truth.

How I live my faith

I was able to serve a mission and devote two years to the service of others. I study the scriptures( book of Mormon and Bible) daily and attend Church willing to learn because i still have lots to learn. I may not be perfect but i have faith that the lord will comfort and strengthen all those who follow him.

What do Mormons believe about family?

Families are the most important unit that God has blessed us with. All the programs of the church are aimed to strengthen the family and help them draw closer to our savior

The family is a key component to support us in God's plan for gaining immortality and eternal life. All of God's children (all the inhabitants that lived, are living, and will live on Earth) are inseperably connected to each other, both (physically) by our Earthly families and (spiritually) by our Heavenly Father.

Families help us to understand our divine heritage. In this, life takes on purpose and meaning. Our immortal spirits were created by our Heavenly Father before Earthly existance, and we are directly connected to Him in this way. As a spiritual family, our collective purpose on Earth is to follow the commandments of God that lead us to live in heaven with Him again.

Our spirits need to progress, learn, and grow. In order to achieve that, Earthly existance was created as our test. Our Heavenly Father knew that being exposed to opposing forces on Earth was the only way for us to gain knowledge and wisdom.

However, we will not always choose righteousness, and so our Savior, Jesus Christ, is that great mediator to pay the debt of our mistakes. He is the only way by which we can be saved from our sins and transgressions. He is the ultimate example by which direction we need to live our lives. With the support of our earthly kin, we can learn from each other, serve each other, and strengthen our mortal weaknesses by being disciples of Christ. Our families are a gift from God, and we can be together forever.

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

The short answer is that, for a time, God commanded it. It was a challenge for those families commanded to practice it, but they accepted the challenge with faith.

There have been many times throughout history that God has asked His people to do difficult things or things that go against the norms of society. For example, God has commanded plural marriage in the Bible. He commanded Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, stopping it at the last minute. He commanded the ancient Israelites to destroy all inhabitants of many of the settlements in the land of Canaan when they returned to the promised land.

The knowledge of these things challenges our faith but we must recognize that God's ways are not our ways and He controls all life.

If plural marriage is something that keeps you from the church or keeps you from investigating further, I invite you to consider this: it really comes down to one thing. Was Joseph Smith a true prophet or not? If he was, then the commandment came from God and He restored His church through Joseph. Answer that question and the rest falls into place. I am happy that I did.
