Why I am a Mormon

My mom is a member since 1994 but I wasn't. Around 2000, it was already so difficult to young men have good principles. I met the missionaries by myself and I was taught about Jesus Christ, how God has restored His church again on the earth, and how I could know by myself if these teaching are true. So, part of the lesson was receive a invitation to pray about The Book of Mormon and the message. So, I decided to do as I was invited. I prayed and asked if the Book of Mormon is true and I felt in my heart that it's true. In the same way, I came to know The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The only church capable to guide me to live again with my Heavenly Father because it has the authority of God and a prophet called by God.

Minha mae e membro desde 1994 mas eu nao era. Por volta de 2000, ja era muito dificil para um rapaz ter bons principios. Eu conheci os missionario por mim mesmo e fui ensinado sobre Jesus Cristo, com Deus restaurou Sua igreja novamente na terra, e como eu poderia saber por mim mesmo se os ensinamentos sao verdadeiros. In what ways have your prayers been answered?

=ENGLISH=
Once I had to learn a language that I could not understand before. I could not speak it at all. So, I studied it as hard as possible but I was being mocked. This was during my mission.

Missionaries receive some gifts of the Spirit. One of them allows us to learn languages easily. Knowing that I had received this gift, I prayed and talked with my Heavenly Father. I told Him that I had been studying so hard but people were making fun of me and I did not like it. I told Him that I would not study that hard anymore because I knew that if He wants me to speak the language, I would speak it.

One or two weeks later, I was transferred to a new area. Since I got in the car and tried to speak my native language with my new companion I could not because I was always changing automatically to the language I was learning.

Since that moment I can speak the language clearly and understand others. I know that Heavenly Father answers our prayers.

Certa vez tive que aprender uma lingua que nunca entendi antes. Eu sabia um pouco mas nao podia falar nada. Entao, estudei duro mas muitos me zombaram. Isso foi durante minha missao.

Missionarios recebem dons do Espirito quando sao chamados. Um deles permite nos aprender linguas facilmente. Sabendo que havia recebido este dom, orei e conversei com meu Pai Celestial. Disse lhe que estava estudando duro mas estavam me zombado eu nao me sentia bem. Disse lhe que nao iria estudar duro mais porque eu sabia que se Ele quisesse que eu falasse a lingua, eu a falaria.

Uma ou duas semanas mais tarde, fui transferido para uma nova area. Desde que entrei no carro e tentei falar minha lingua nativa com meu novo companheiro nao podia pois sempre mudei automaticamente para a lingua que eu estava aprendendo.

Desde aquele momento eu posso falar a lingua claramente e entender outros. Sei que Pai Celestial responde nossas oracoes.

How I live my faith

=ENGLISH=
Right now, I'm serving in Massachusetts Boston Mission in the United States. It's a wonderful place. I can feel as our Heavenly Father loves each one of His children. I have enjoyed happiness with new converts and everybody I have the opportunity to serve and work with. It's awesome to be here now and to help others to come unto Christ by developing faith in Jesus Christ, repenting, being baptized by one person that holds the authority of God and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. This is the way I've lived preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, being more like Him and helping more people to find a purpose in their lives.

Nesse exato momento, estou servindo na Missao Massachusetts Boston, nos Estados Unidos. E um lugar maravilhoso. Eu posso sentir com Nosso Pai Celestial ama cada um de Seus filhos. Tenho sentido muita felicidade com novos conversos e com todos que tenho a oportunidade de servir e trabalhar com. E maravilhoso estar aqui agora e ajudar outro a achegarem-se a Cristo ao desenvolverem fe em Jesus Cristo, arrependerem-se, serem batizados por uma pessoa que possui a autoridade de Deus e recebendo o dom do Espirito Santo. Esta e a forma que tenho vivido, pregando o Evangelho de Jesus Cristo, sendo mais como Ele e ajudando mais pessoas a encontrar um proposito em suas vidas.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

We, as human beings, are used to want everything that is of worth and that bring us greater happiness. The growth of the Church can be attributed to the fact that we have something that other people don't have. When people look at our eyes and see twinkle in his eye even in great tribulated and challenging times in life, they wonder where that twinkle comes from. This twinkle comes from the fact that WE KNOW that God lives and answer our prayers; that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world; that the Church that Jesus Christ established 2000 years ago, have been restored and is again on earth to bring everlasting happiness to everybody's lives.

Nos, como seres humanos, temos o costume de querer tudo o que e de valor e que nos traz maior felicidade. O crescimento da Igreja pode ser atribuido ao fato de que nos temos algo que outras pessoas nao tem. Quando as pessoas nos olham nos olhos e veem o brilho mesmo em momentos de grande tribulacao e dificuldade na vida, acabam se perguntando de onde vem o brilho. Esse brilho vem do fato que sabemos que Deus vive e responde nossas oracoes; que Jesus Cristo e o Salvador do mundo; que a igreja que Jesus Cristo fundou ha 2000 anos atras, foi restaurada e esta novamente na terra para trazer essa felicidade duradoura para a vida de todos.

I think the Church is growing because people see that there can be a better way to live, that they don't have to be bound by the chains of addiction, pornography, dysfunction and broken homes. We know that the most important thing in this world is the family and the future of this world is found in the lives of the children and teenagers we see on the street, in our malls and schools. The best thing we can do is teach them to be honest, upright and moral citizens who can contribute to the betterment of society. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that the family is incredibly significant--so significant that God wants us to be families forever, even when we die. This is huge for many people in the world who realize that their children can really be with them forever. There is tremendous comfort in that, and I think this is why so many people are drawn to this Church. It provides hope and peace.

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

I don't know. Quite honestly when labels are used I think this comes from someone's desire to quickly explain away something that they don't understand. If they really took a hard look at the church it would be easy to tell that Mormons do not blindly follow any human being. I think maybe someone who might use that label could look at the level of commitment and obedience found among the members of this church and casually explain this away as blind obedience. They certainly do not see the personal struggles and the effort that maintaining a personal relationship with God requires. Like most Mormons I think, I do what I do out of devotion and love. It may start out as duty and habit, but as I have come to know God and His mercy and love (the big picture) I can't help but want to keep the commandments. I don't follow a person, I follow God and His Son and they help me every step of the way.
