Hi, I'm Cameron Armstrong
I'm an LCSW working with youth and their families. I love to play music, martial arts, sports and I Read, just give me a book!
About Me
I have been married to the woman of my dreams and am a father of three children, love playing and listening to music. I play drums, guitar, piano and the harmonica. My next instrument will be the ukulele. I also have done the Japanese martial art of Aikido for almost 10 years. I used to teach the children's class and substituted for other classes at times. I grew up with learning disabilities but still graduated with a masters degree, they still are there but I have learned to overcome them. I also love to read, I always have a book I am reading and I am a library junkie. Just give me a book, I don't care the genre if it is a good story I will read it.
Why I am a Mormon
Even though my parents were both converts to the church they did not treat us as if we were raised in the church. They wanted us to know how other people think, believe and behave. We traveled a lot to Canada where my mom's family lived and also out to Missouri where my father is from. We saw many different ways to live and saw many good examples of good people and others who were not so good. our parents always talked to us about the ability to choose and gave us plenty of chances to suffer our consequences. We also lived over seas for a few years and saw different cultures and religious practices. What I found to be most interesting was that no matter what religion it was they always ask the same questions. Where did we come from, why are we here and what happens afterwards? I would always ask, doesn't your church teach this stuff? and they would say, "no, they talk about glorifying God but they don't get specific. In the LDS faith we talk very specific about these questions I can even draw it out on a napkin and that blows people's minds. I would say, "It is called the plan of salvation and we are taught it from when we are born, why weren't you taught it?
The main reason I am a Mormon is because I prayed about it. This is the only church that wants you to actually ask God if this is the right place for you to be. There is only on source of truth so go to that source and ask about it. I studied about the church, other churches and then went to the Lord to ask. I experimented with the commandments to see if the promise comes and in time I got my answer, this is the right church. That a prophet does lead the church, we can make it back to our Father in Heaven through the atonement of Jesus Christ and only through him.
This Church answers all my questions, helps me to become better person, father, husband and employee. This Church helps me to become closer to my Father in Heaven. This is why I am a Mormon.
Personal Stories
Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you?
My favorite scripture is John 16:33
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
I love this scripture because I talks about why he teaches what he does. He knows we are going to have hard times so he wants us to have peace in those hard times. Not just peace though, he wants us to have a good attitude and to be of good cheer. Why should we "be of good cheer"? What reason should we be this way in hard times? He has overcome the world.
Christ has paved the way for us to follow so that we can follow him, and no matter what happens we can be happy, at peace and live with our Father in Heaven again. This life is going to be tough but I am worthy of love, belonging and peace.
How I live my faith
I live my faith daily. Just want to be a good influence to the world. from things as big as reading my scriptures everyday to picking up pieces of paper towel in the public bathrooms before I leave. I just want to make the world a bit better then when I left. Being a Mormon is not hard. some people think the church rules our lives and tells us what to think and do but this is not true. I choose not to drink, smoke or watch rated R and some PG-13 movies because in the long run it gives me more freedom, discipline and strength. at times I get flack from people because I did not see a particular movie but it does not bother me, when I say that the movie really was not very appropriate they usually agree with me. I just want to do my best and be a good person. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is given to us so we can reach our full potential, what that means is for us to be able to learn, discipline ourselves and be able to make decisions that will bring true and lasting happiness not just in the moment. Each week at church i learn something new from many different sources and come away with a commitment to do at least one thing better in my life. Week after week those 'one things' add up and I love it.
