About Me

Aloha! My name is Cody, I'm an artist, an entertainer, a photographer, an adventurer, a world traveler and I'm a Mormon. Hawaii is home and I love it! I love the beach, and also enjoy hiking to waterfalls, taking pictures, performing polynesian dances and I'm even an avid skydiver. I host a daily Lu'au nightly and love it. My travels have taken me all around the world where I've met humble, loving people, I've walked with people from every walk of life and learned so much from the diverse and beautiful world cultures.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I've found the teachings of the Church to be true and real. I love Jesus Christ and His gospel and perfect example for me has given me strength, courage and hope to make it through whatever comes my way. I am a Mormon because as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I've come to know that God still loves me even enough to guide me a very personal a real way through the teachings of His son Jesus Christ. Through the peace that the Holy Ghost brings and through living Prophets like those of old who lead us on earth. How cool is that!?

Why do Mormons go on missions?

Imagine you are a treasure hunter and you come across the most amazing find. This treasure has been sought after, and millions are searching for it, and you are the one to find it! The treasure is beautiful and brings you so much happiness and the most wonderful thing of all, there is plenty of it to go around! Do you not share it with those you love?

Resoundingly the answer is YES!

Similarly, I found the most precious of all treasures when I discovered the gospel of Jesus Christ and found that the personal application of Christ's teachings made me so happy. So, of course I wanted to share the love and peace and happiness with everyone I met.

When I was nineteen I decided I would share that joy and happiness by going on a mission! I was so excited when I left home, family and friends for two years and dedicated that time to sharing the teachings of Jesus Christ in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

Lives were changed, including mine, as I shared the most wonderful treasure I know, the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in everything I do. I love to attend Church and feel uplifted when I go every Sunday. Daily I strive to find ways to touch the lives of those around me in a way that Christ would do. I know that I can be His hands in serving and loving my neighbor and those around me.

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

We certainly do not. As a Mormon I've constantly been taught about the importance of family and how to strengthen those bonds. My mother and father exemplify the ideal of loving parents and I am so grateful for that loving bond my 5 siblings and I share with our mom and dad. Our faith does not teach, condone, accept, or defend polygamy in any way.

No, Mormons do not practice polygamy and discontinued the practice over a century ago. Yet, whenever I discuss my faith, often the first question asked is, "how many wives do you have?" It is important to know that the religious groups that currently practice polygamy, as often seen on the news, have no affiliation with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Even though some of these groups may claim otherwise.

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Some call Mormonism a cult because it is not a "traditional" Christian church. The primary complaint of the "traditionalists" (generally Protestant Churches) is that we do not believe in the doctrine of the trinity as it relates to the nature of the Godhead. The doctrine of the trinity was codified in the Nicene Creed in 325 AD, many years after the death of Christ and the Apostles. It basically says that the Godhead, The Father, Son and Holy Ghost, are one being in "substance." Since Mormonism does not accept this doctrine, they say we believe in a different Christ than they do and therefore are a cult. It is curious that this "trinitarian" doctrine is not taught anywhere in the Bible.

Mormons believe the Bible is the Word of God. The Bible (and the early church established by Jesus and His Apostles) teaches that the Godhead indeed consists of The Father, Son and Holy Ghost. But, it teaches that they are: 1) three distinct individuals as expressed in Acts 7:54-60 where Stephen is being stoned. "He being filled with the Holy Ghost looked up steadfastly into heaven and saw Jesus standing on the right hand of God." And it teaches 2) they are one in purpose, not in substance (John 17 where Jesus offers his intercessory prayer, particularly verses 20-23.) This is what Mormons believe.

It is noteworthy that the early Christians were called the "sect of the Nazarenes" (Acts 24:5) and were considered a cult by the Sadducees and Pharisees, the predominant religions of the day.
